Sammy and his mum go out shopping to buy a birthday present for his cousin Rachel. Sammy wants every stuffed animal in the shop for himself. He thinks having all of them will make him happy until his mum helps him discover what is really important.
We have a three year old son and this is one of his FAVORITE books! He asks us to read it to him all the time. He knows the phrase "But I want it!!" very well. We can also use the lesson in this book, when he wants ALL the toys, too. Love the book. A++++++ We have been very pleased with ALL of Dr. Laura's childrens books. Our son really enjoys us reading them to him. He asks questions about the illustrations. It's great.
But I Waaant It!

This book gets top rating from me as one of the most valuable books I have for my children. They request it over and over again and have learned a great deal about giving to other children who are not as fortunate. They are less selfish because of this book - it opened up the conversation about materialism. *PLEASE take other reviews with a grain of salt when it is so blatantly obvious that it is an attack on the author - and not the content and value of the book.
My kids and I loved this book!

Once again Dr. Laura hits the nail on the head with, "But I Waaant it." Not only did my kids enjoy the story, but they understood the message. We had a lovely talk after the story about selfishness and giving. Thank you Dr. Laura for writing a children's book about kindness and morallity.
Excellent book!

Wonderful book! It has a great lesson for kids. It is NOT a guideline for parents to follow--it is a cute story about how getting everything you want doesn't make you happy. Of course the point is not to buy your child EVERYTHING he/she asks for. The point--which I think children will readily absorb--is that "things" do not create happiness. Great book, every child and ADULT should read it!
I beg to differ!

The book sends a good message and got my two girls thinking. The purpose of Dr. Laura's radio show is to put your thinking cap on, and I think this was the purpose for the childrens book also. They might not have understood why the mother bought all the toys first but it brought a large discussion between me and my daughters which was amazing. They were able to think hard and strong about the books point and this provided them with a deeper knowledge of knowing to thoroughly thinking something through. I do recommend this book to everyone who wants to make a point or set an example with there children. Whether it be what my girls understood or something else. The book can set many levels to take your childrens thoughts to.
