DOUBLE BLIND

DOUBLE BLIND come to find out, is the ninth book in the Hideaway Series by Hannah Alexander. I was shocked to find out that the Hideway Series has been published in two different formats. I've read books 1,2,3,5, and have just ordered 7-Grave Risk. This was a little frustrating to find out, but I'm happy to say, it did not infringe on my enjoyment of DOUBLE BLIND. DOUBLE BLIND centers around Sheila Metcalf. When Sheila finds out the Navajo reservation school that she attended as a child-and where her mother died mysteriously-has had more unexplained deaths, she decides to set out for Arizona. Offering her skills to Canaan York, a close childhood friend does not set well with Preston Black, the man that loves Sheila. Though Preston and Sheila differ on their beliefs in God, Preston admires her dedication, he just wishes the eligible Canaan York wasn't in the picture. Sheila is not welcomed by all at the school of her childhood. Even though she grew up on the reservation, she is shunned by some of the staff, not wanting the interference of a biligaana (white man) in their business. Sheila ignores the resistance and insists she has come to Twin Mesa to help, not to interfere. When Preston finds out that Sheila has not received a warm welcome, and is frustrated with the distance between them, he, along with Blaze, a veterinarian student, head to Twin Mesa to lend a helping hand. Anything to get Sheila away from the reservation and the unsettling things that are happening. DOUBLE BLIND is full of twists and turns. From an ancient curse by a wolf that stalks the area and appears in Sheila's nightmares, to the possibility of a outbreak of an unknown virus, you are kept guessing about what is happening, and who it is that is behind the mysterious illnesses and threatening pranks played on Sheila to get her to leave. I enjoyed DOUBLE BLIND. My only frustration came when I realized there were more books in the series and I would have to do some back-peddling if I wanted to read them all.

pretty good I'd say

It was a good book. It gave you a few guesses as to the bad guy but you don't find out til the end. It had some of the romantic stuff but not a ton it was more about the story and mystery. Whats going on. I recommend it. Its kind of nice to get out of Hideaway. When so many things start happening in one small town you start not to believe the stories, even though its fiction a good author pulls you in to know and believe the characters. That happens in this book as well as the others.

Enjoy The Thrill of Native Spirits

When a deadly car crash shattered her marriage, Sheila Metcalf came home to Hideaway, Missouri, to find new meaning in her life. Now, secrets from the past and the deaths of two childhood friends are drawing her back to the Navajo reservation in Arizona. What is the connection between her mother's long-ago death and the troubles sweeping across the Navajo nation? Will the new love in her life find faith in time to help her put these questions to rest? In this ninth book in the Hideaway series, author Hannah Alexander takes her readers to Arizona and a boarding school for Navajo children. Here, biligaana (white people) are not to be trusted and suspicions surround Sheila, who has come to help in the local clinic. The Wolf, with inherent powers of evil, is threatening the lives of the children and the dreams that haunt Sheila. In the face of this peril, she must find answers to questions that threaten her life, her spirit, and the children she has come to help. In this medical mystery, Sheila puts her nursing skills and her belief in God to the test. Nightmares and spirits draw her back into the realm of Native American mysticism, where she spent time as a child and lost her mother. Going against the wishes of her father, friends, and the man who loves her, she will test her faith and venture into a different kind of reality. After a fierce battle in an old shaman's death hogan, she is found drugged and huddled over a bloody, dying man. Later, she tells her rescuers, "The spirits--they are real." This book brings back some of our favorite characters from the Hideaway series and adds a new level of spiritual awakening. The suspense will keep you guessing to the very end and the surprises keep you turning the pages in this delightful read. by Rhonda Esakov for Story Circle Book Reviews reviewing books by, for, and about women

Fast-paced Suspense

Things aren't going well at the Navajo school where Sheila Metcalf grew up. Two of her childhood friends are dead under suspicious circunstances, and a deadly virus is sweeping out of control. Sheila is determined to leave the safety of Hideaway and return to the Navajo reservation. In addition to finding out what is going on at the school, she wants to learn the truth about what happened to her mother, who died there. No one wants to talk to her about the past, and the future is becoming increasingly dangerous. Hannah Alexander always delivers a good story, and in my opinion Double Blind is one of the best. Riviting action, plenty of suspense, believable characters, and a strong faith message. This one's a winner. Strongly recommended.
