Still relevant-- we need more women and girls in tech a MUST

Women and girls don't be left in the glass "basement" looking up at a future which is full of opportunity as we enter the 21st Century. Elizabeth knows her stuff I remember meeting her at Women in New Technology, she's sharp and her profiles are still very relevant today. Some of the websites she profiles are long gone -- but the women who created them are still high profile in the new tech world. Lots to learn from what happened in the "dot bomb" times and lots more to learn from girls and women who strive to create the next cross-network ventures. Visionary woman, visionary founders.

It's About Time!

With all of the books and articles about male CEOs, particularly in the tech and Internet industries, it is about time there is a well-researched book about female CEOs and founders of successful and growing tech/Net companies that breaks down their businesses and their advice.Even though the dot com explosion has affected two of the companies in the book, I think the rest of the women's ability to withstand the market shakeup is a testament to how women tend to start more conservative and more sound businesses. Although the market is still in flux, "Dotcom Divas" offers clear portraits of diverse businesswomen with varying styles and motivations that will undoubtedly lead them to continued success.Any aspiring businessperson - not just women - will glean some essential tips and ideas from reading this book.

I loved DotCom Divas.

I loved DotCom Divas. I learned so much from it. It describes the lay of the land of Web businesses and spells out what it takes to build them. Not an entrepreneur myself, it really got me thinking entrepreneurially, which I enjoyed. The book also taught me a lot about life in this really unique time and place - business on the Internet at the turn of this century. Carlassare conveys the dreams, real life circumstances and challenges, ingenuity, creativity, and endurance of the entrepreneurs she profiles. I also really appreciated the diversity of the types of businesses, the entrepreneurs themselves, their funding approaches, and strategies she included. The best part of DotCom Divas is that it is about women. These days there are a large number of women in business and technology. Hats off to Carlassare for seeking out and circulating their stories.

informative reading for internet entrepreneurs and others

The book is full of very interesting and informative insights, particularly about how the women got their businesses going. Very inspiring reading, especially the examples of women who'd started from sparse beginnings, as well as contains some very useful statistics and info on the companies' business strategies. Elizabeth Carlassare's refreshing writing style makes the book both informative and fun to read. I'd highly recommend this book to any budding entrepreneur as well as anyone who wants to know more about how some very pioneering, gutsy women made their mark in this very dynamic industry.

Bravo for Dotcom Divas!

This book is an inspirational tribute to female dotcom visionaries -- their brilliant ideas, their dedication to making their business plans fly, and the important lessons they've learned along the way. It made me seriously consider starting my own dotcom, and made the process seem entirely achievable. The entrepreneurs profiled plowed through whatever obstacles came their way -- whether they needed to win venture capitalists' support, recruit top executives, or grab crucial market share -- to establish creative, revolutionary web sites that are expanding consumers' options and changing the way the world works. Carlassare has done an excellent job of making each story not only informative and readable but dramatic and engaging. I'd say this is a must-read for anyone -- female or male -- who's thinking about starting a web business. Bravo!
