Fun, easy read

As an early and mid-teen, my brother and i were englufed in David's "Endworld" and Blade series of books. Endworld was by far our favorite and in each of the over 25 Endworld books, we always heard how "Kurt Carpenter" started The Family and The Home. With those early books taking place over 100 years after the armageddon and the world still in chaos but starting to come to some common ground, it was fun to read "Doomsday" and see where Point A was. A fun read as always and David.......please write more Endworld books!!!!

Endworld Is Back !!"

ENDWORLD - DOOMSDAY By David Robbins - Genre Action/Adventure/Thriller I'm a big fan of some of the post-apocalypse series namely "Deathlands", "Outlanders", "Survivalist" and "Doomsday Warrior" but my favourite was always the ENDWORLD series (And it's spin-off series BLADE) by David Robbins because of its unique mixture of Home, Family & Friendship coupled with bags of action, great characters, fantastic plots, excellent dialogue, big dashes of humour and oodles of all out excitement so a new "Endworld" book had a lot to live up to in my eyes and I'm very pleased to say that the new book "Doomsday" (I was one of the lucky 25 Endworld fans who received an "Advance Reading Copy" of the book from the publishers Dorchester) more than lived up to my high expectations as it's an absolute thrillathon !! "Doomsday" is a prequel to the original "Endworld" series first published in the 80's/90's (Dorchester is reprinting the old series with new covers) and deals with a third World War, it's aftermath and how "The Home & Family" from the original series came about, it's origins, how people were selected to be included in Kurt Carpenters vision of how humanity could survive after a global war to end all wars, the creation of the first embryonic "Warriors" who would eventually be "The Family's" ultimate protectors. I don't want to spoil it for potential readers of this book but I'll just say that it has a terrific plot that is fast paced, full of action and excitement, excellent and at times humorous dialogue, great characters and much much more and when you have finished the book it leaves you hungry for more !! - OH and THOR rules !! My hopes are now that this excellent tome does well enough that we have two new "Endworld" series, one continuing the original series timeline and one continuing on from the "Doomsday" timeline, that would be heaven. So a big thank you to David Robbins for the new book in one of my favourite ever series and to Dorchester for the publishing the new book. So to sum it up, the book will thrill any fan of the original "Endworld" series and anyone who enjoys a cracking action yarn, no-one will be disappointed IMHO. OH and once again THOR rules !!

At Last!

At a remote site in Minnesota, filmmaker Kurt Carpenter has built a secure compound and invited a select group of people to bunker down until the worst is over. The world into which they re-emerge is like nothing they've ever seen. At first they think they're the only ones left. But they soon find out how wrong they are. In the wasteland of what used to be America, their battle to survive is only just beginning... At last, something the fans have been clamouring for, another book in the postapocalyptic series Endworld, which saw its last book appear some seventeen years ago. Ever since fans have been demanding more, and now they've got their wish, so does the book fulfil their dreams? This new Endworld book does not continue where the series left off all those years ago - a series that was so successful that it spawned a spin-off series Blade - but goes back in time to that fateful day when world war three erupted and so brought about the end of the world as known. David Robbins cleverly intersperses the first part of the book with news reports that don't just tell of the destruction of parts of America but also places around the world, thus showing how fast this global terror escalates and allows him to illustrate the growing fear in his characters and make the reader realise how close to the terrifying truth this could be - particularly when you look at what is happening around the world today it could prove to be horrifically prophetic. And what of the lead characters? Kurt Carpenter really comes across well as a man able to put on a calm front whilst beneath he's full of fear and doubt that he's done enough to ensure the survival of those he's trying to protect. Carpenter is the only character who readers of the previous Endworld books will recognise as the series is set one hundred years after this book, and just as those books were filled with memorable characters so is this, who will ever be able to forget the man who becomes known as Thor? And it's not just strong male characters that David Robbins includes, there's the ladies too, women such as Diana Trevor and Space. All fascinating characters who once met you will want to know more about. As I've said the first part of the book deals with the nuclear holocaust, swiftly moving from one set of characters to another as they all race desperately against time to reach the safety of what will become known as The Home. And it's once here that past readers of the Endworld series will find more detailed explanations to how The Home and life there developed. The final section of the book deals with the first run of the newly formed warriors - the handpicked people who defend the home from outside threats - as they attempt to find the lost SEAL, a vehicle that is very important to the future of the survivors and as well as providing a gripping climax to the story proves to be the part most reminiscent of the past books. Overall Doomsday is an exciting and thought provoking read that sho

Action, adventure and sci-fi at its best!

Talk about edge of your seat reading, this is it! DOOMSDAY is the prequel to the popular post-apocalyptic series of ENDWORLD books written by author David Robbins. For those who have read the ENDWORLD series as I have, DOOMSDAY makes perfect sense to how it all came about. ENDWORLD is the aftermath of WW III. It is about warriors, mutants, other not so friendly survivors and a world forever changed by thermonuclear blasts and chemical warfare. DOOMSDAY is the beginning of the end. Everyone knows it 'could' happen. There are weapons out there and the technology to deploy them. Robbins builds a sense of urgency in a rapidly deteriorating situation and the simultaneous execution of a detailed plan for survival. Strong characterizaion, a frightening realism, and cliffhangers galore made this book a page turner! I felt like I was there!! I'd recommend this book and the series to anybody who enjoys fast-paced action/adventure books and sci-fi!

Endworld is back in a big way!!!!

From the mid 80's to the early 90's David Robbins riveted his fans with the post-apocalyptic adventure series EndWorld. The series focused on life one-hundred years after World War III. Primarily on the Warriors, the defenders of the 30 acre compound in which they lived. Now a number of years after the series has ended, David is back at it. ENDWORLD:DOOMSDAY will be released in April of '09. This is a prequel to David's successful and compelling series ENDWORLD. Where would you be if you could predict WWIII? Kurt Carpenter, a multi-million dollar movie producer, knows. You see Kurt realized that the world is heading for the ultimate nuclear disaster. So he invested millions of dollars into building a compound far away civilization and the disaster of the war. He has selected a special group of one hundred people to come and live at his "Home".....Once the bombs drop, they have 100 hours to reach the Home....Let the action packed rush for survival begin! The war in the Middle East is escalating and it is creeping towards America, the Bombs have dropped and the main characters of DOOMSDAY are making their way across the country to join Kurt Carpenter's oasis of survival. They come from all over, Philly, Phoenix, New York, and Seattle. They must make it through a panicked and scared America to reach the compound. The country is in a free for all as reports of American cities being nuked and boarders being invaded are running rampant throughout the news. The trip for all of them will prove to be a difficult one, full of surprises, and obstacles. If and when our characters reach the compound and bunker down until the bombs stop, what will life be like when they re-emerge? This is where David's writing is just totally amazing; he takes our very memorable characters and he makes you feel what they are feeling. Every emotion that the people in the book feel, you will feel as well. His writing is vivid and intense. The way he writes, building the tension and fear, made me scared and uneasy as well. Especially with the state of affairs in the Middle East these days, I found myself wondering if David himself, might have a compound I could visit should the need arise here soon. :-) Davis is an outstanding writer who can paint a picture in your head like no other. His descriptive and story telling skills are second to none. This book is an action adventure reader's dream. If you have never read the old ENDWORLD books, then you will be in for a treat as it is not necessary to know of the old books to enjoy this book. This is a total stand alone adventure filled with action built up to a perfect storm. If you are one of the many fans of the old ENDWORLD books then you also are in for a treat, as this books shows the beginning of it all ! Brian Lay
