From tsunamis to man-made nuclear winters to devastating plagues, "The Master of Disaster" examines a dozen life-ending catastrophes that could smother Mother Earth in the near future.
This is the first real pager-turner ever written in the genre of non-fiction, science-based books. Mr. Moran lays out ten exciting scenarios that could one day lead to the extinction of humankind: Weapons of Mass Destruction, Asteroid Impacts with Earth, Massive Volcanic Eruptions, The Greenhouse Effect, The Coming Ice Age, Mega-Tsunamis, Plagues, Cyberterrorism, Insect Invasions, and Bioengineering Blunders. One of Mr. Moran's predictions has already been proven possible; in the "Weapons of Mass Destruction" chapter, he discusses the possibility that other countries may, in the very near future, use chemical, biological and/or other WMD against the United States. With a potential war on the horizon, this possibility has become a glaring threat we may have to face in months, or even weeks. I found DOOMSDAY to be extremely well researched. Mr. Moran knows his stuff, and he explained terms and concepts a hundred times better than even my favorite college professors. I recommend DOOMSDAY to all interested in learning more about the dangers we may face both today, and in the future. Just because there is a very slim chance that an event should take place, does not mean it still does not pose a violent, and horrifying threat to all of humankind.
Very Scary, and a Wonderful Read!

This book was a true page turner, and I literally did not put it down until I had read it from cover to cover. Most of the subjects interested me, but ALL of the various scenarios scared me, but did so in a way that made me think, and it was exactly the type of book I was looking for. More importantly, I believe I learned from it, because it was written in a way that allowed me to easily understand some complex subjects.Although I am not as well versed in some of the subjects that the author obviously is, I found the subjects that I do have some knowledge about to have been very thoroughly researched. If you're looking for a book that will keep you turning the pages, keep you entertained, and leave you with some added knowledge of subjects, such as Cyberterrorism and Bioengineering and natural catastrophes, such as Volcanic Eruptions and Tsunamis, THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU!
Excellent Read!

Wow, after reading Mr. Chapman's review, I felt personally obligated to write my own review.DOOMSDAY was not only based on fact, not only was it well-researched, it did the job with simple to understand language. Never before have I learned about such complex ideas through much easier definitions and concepts. So, Mr. Chapman, what would you say the odds are that two of our own planes would crash into the World Trade Center, perhaps igniting what may someday be called World War III? There are too many what-ifs to even begin to mention in such a short review. This book simply opens one's eyes as to the (very real!!) possibilities that we, or the generations that follow, may someday face.I especially appreciated the scenarios presented before each chapter. Thank you, Mr. Moran, for an education that was unequaled, and far more interesting, than most of my college science courses! Please, Mr. Chapman, stick with your supposed "research" and leave the book reviews to someone else since you have so little grasp of how constant "change" is in our world.
Scary... Yet Plausable.

This is an excellent book. Well written and about a topic that will definitely keep you turning the pages. Each chapter is about a separate "catastrophe" and begins with a quick 2-3 page hypothetical situation. The chapter then goes into explaining the cold, hard facts and research behind the scenario in depth. From Cyberattacks to Ebola to Nuclear exchanges, it's in here.I'll be honest with you as well... Unless you have a gut-of-steel, this information will make you uneasy, and will most likely frightening you. And, what makes it so scary is how it's simply based on real research and rock-solid facts. You read these scenarios, and you think, "Wow... That could actually happen."Otherwise, enjoy the book for what it is: Information. Because, after all, you can never have too much knowledge.
Excellent, informative and well reasearched

I do not normally read books of this genre, however, due to recent world events I thought it would be a great read as well as a way to familiarize myself with all that is going on. The author did a fantastic job of describing very scientific and complex terms and theories in such a way that I was able to grasp each concept extraordinarily well. The book is a page turner from start-to-finish! I highly recommend DOOMSDAY; it is well researched, exciting, and informative. It is also a great read for those who are unfamiliar with scientific terminology.
