Don't Look Now

This picture book is executed in the style of a comic book, with multiple panels per page and exciting illustrations that cleverly play on the overlap between fantasy and reality. Two boys, busy in their backyard kiddie pool, imagine a series of perilous adventures for themselves that begin as pranks but turn into a full-fledged--and mutually supportive--expedition into a brightly colored alien world. The satisfying conclusion, which bands the once-feuding boys together against a interfering adult (seen only as a pair of hands) allows the imaginative play to conclude without being stifled.
