My 14 months daughter loves it

my daughter loves dogs. So when we saw it on the shelf she starting doing her "woof woof" sound, we took it home. We have had this book at home for a few days now and she wants to read it over and over again. She loves all the animals dog meets and at the end they are all on the same page, we play a game she picks one and we do the sound. Funny!

Excellent children's book!

My 5 year old picked this book out at the library, and both he and my 16 month old daughter enjoyed it so much that I had to buy it for them for Christmas. Both children were totally engaged in the story and loved the pictures. I would recommend it to anyone!

Talking With the Animals

So you think only Dr. Doolittle Can talk to the animals? Well, accordiong to Emma Dodd--and she should know, she's written about "Dog" before--canines have a fairly impressive vocabulary. THey "YAWN!" when they wake up, their stomachs grumble "GRRRR!" when hungry, and "afer breakfast, when "ready for adventure," they bark "WOOF WOOF!" ANimals talk back to Dog too; he hears a bird's "CHIRRIP, TWEET, TWEET!," a cat's "MEOW," and a rooster's "COCK-A-DOODLE DOOOOO!" WHen Dog tries to imitate this, it comes out: "WOOFA, WOOFLE, WOO!" which elicits some good natured "MOO MOO MOO!" from some cows entertained by Dog's attempt. Perhaps this is too literal, but apparently animals translation of animal talk seems to involve all capital letters, as well as exclamation marks! Dog's innocent fun continues as hemeets other recognizable animals such as a donkey, geese, a bumble bee, sheep, and a piglet who dog initially things is another dogs! The colors and animal shapes are big and vivid, there's a fresh, clean look, and minimal use of shadows: the pictures should be visible to those at the back of a crowd gathered for group. reading. There's just a hint of Sandra Boynton's style in Dodd's animals, such as the big round eyes veering towards one side of the face, but the scale of the pictures and the friendly, curious dog makes this an appealing book. However, the story doesn't develop much, it's pretty linear. Even toddlers can appreciate a few more turns in the story, although others will enjoy the safe predictability and the uniformly friendly animals (though they may be a but loud at times). I did like the cute surprise at the book's conclusion: Dog hears a "CLANG! CLANG!," the "spund that Doug loves the most. It's the sound of a spoon agianst his dinner plate. Vicky, whom we partially see (the focus remains on Dog), asks "Did you have a quiet day?" After dinner, DOG "curls up in his bed, quiet as a mouse..." Except for one little problem (to which Dog humorously opens one eye), the mouse isn't completely quiet, it comes halfway out of it's arched hole in the wall to say "SQUEAK! SQUEAK!"

My daughter's favorite!

The whole "Dog" series is the favorite of my 23 month old, but especially "Dog's Noisy Day". She has got several pages of the text memorized and knows all the animal sounds in the book. She will request this book over and over again because it is so much fun to read. Dog is greatly admired in this family!

It's a dog's life!

A fun book to read out loud, lots of big, bold pictures, noisy words & lively animals to see! Great for preschoolers.
