A Story of a Boy and His Grandfather

This book is mainly about a boy called Bradley, who has a grandfather that got Alzheimer's disease. However, from Bradley¡¦s perspective about his grandfather, Doc, he thinks that Doc is a wonderful man, because not just that he is medically involved as being doctor, but politically involved. He is politically involved because he tried to ¡§save¡¨ kids from getting injured by the lack of good equipments in the playground. Therefore, Doc brought some people from the community to riot against the mayor. In the book, it said Doc ¡§whips into action and bends the rules, breaks them when he has to, buttonholes people, argues, fights, debates, gets all steamed up and still, with all that, he never takes advantage of someone small or young or weak or odd¡¨, which explains that Doc is a person full of mystery. Strangely enough, when Doc got the Alzheimer's disease, he killed his own friend in the hospital by kicking his bed down the hallway without anyone noticing. Even more ironic is that Brat helped Doc with his ¡§murder plan¡¨, but Doc didn¡¦t get jailed. Brat was so in awe to his grandfather that he didn¡¦t recognize that Doc¡¦s disease was getting worse. However, he didn¡¦t kill anyone, but he couldn¡¦t speak properly. There were many downfalls of his life in each chapter, such as one of Brat¡¦s friend, Lance, died in a ¡§suicidal incident¡¨. Is his grandfather a great downfall of Brat¡¦s life? I found this book really interesting as I realized that there were not much good things in Brat¡¦s life. Well, besides reading how good Brat felt when his girlfriend, Martha, touched him, there wasn¡¦t really any good part in his life time in the book. It was really unexpected that Brat would actually ¡§fall in love¡¨ with his aunt, Susan, due to her beauty, but he didn¡¦t get involved in the love relationship with his aunt. I found great interest in the book when I read that Doc once had an affair with another woman called Lorraine. It was pretty sad to read that when Susan, Doc¡¦s daughter, was ten years old, she saw her dad ¡§humping¡¨ on Lorraine in front of his bedroom with the door wide open. She also says ¡§it scared the daylight out of her¡¨. This book is not just a serious book, but a book of a boy who had a hard time facing life.

I liked the book

It was a good book, and I liked the subject of the book. It was well writen in modern time. I thought it would be set in the 50's when I first started reading, then you find out it's modern day, and it's just a silly book about a kid dealing with his grandpa having alzhiemers
