Book Overview

When you're a favorite pet, the arrival of a rival can spark a pang of jealousy - but this charmingly illustrated tale reminds us that there's plenty of love to go around. Dudley is as happy as a dog can be: waking up Anna bright and early, knocking over vases while he's playing hide-and-seek, scaring the neighbor's cat (or trying to), and curling up with Anna at day's end. But when Anna brings home a baby chameleon named Pequito, everything changes...

A Cute Children's Book

Dudley is a lucky dog. He has a great home, and he gets to spend time with Anna. He plays hide and seek, rests on Anna's lap, and chases the neighbor's cat. All is well in Dudley's world until Anna brings Pequito home. Pequito is a bright green chameleon who seemingly has taken Dudley's places as Anna's best friend. Everything that Dudley and Anna used to do together, she now does with Pequito. Dudley is very sad. But, one day Dudley realizes that Pequito is missing. He decides to go look for him. Soon, He spots the neighbor's cat trying to sneak up on Pequito. Dudley lets out the loudest bark he has ever barked, and the neighbor's cat ends up soaking wet in a pool of water. Anna thinks that Dudley is a hero for saving Pequito. Now, both Dudley and Pequito get to sit on Anna's lap. This is a very cute book. It teaches children the value of friendship as well as looking out for one another. My 5-year-old daughter and I shared this book and she enjoyed it very much; so much so that I read it to her several times. Highly recommended.

This book covers the subject of a child learning to "share" the love from parents, etc. with a newcomer. In my case, a new little brother was coming and I bought this for my 3 year old grandson. It beautifully describes there is nothing to fear, and something wonderful to gain. A great read if your family is expecting another baby, or has a new baby in the house.
