Historical Gay Romance

During the carriage ride back to Carwick estate after an unsuccessful attempt to acquire rent monies on his properties; the new Earl, Dean Smith was ambushed by a very attractive highway man. The highway man never saw the attack from the Earl coming. When the Magistrate tells the Earl his engagement to the magistrates daughter is called off, Dean convinces the highway man to travel by his side to Bath, and identify the person responsible for the setup. Along the journey the two men begin a friendship of sorts but still hit a few bad patches along the way. Dean tries to come to terms with Rob being a male prostitute, but still can not fathom why a man of his beauty resorted to such an awful means of income. Dean also begins to have dreams of Rob and the love making they could share. Although that will never be an option to Dean, he is engaged still in his mind and has no intention of experiencing the delicious companion he has assisting him. Dean never looked at himself as handsome, but Rob could not find him more attractive. Dean often tries to figure out Rob, but the man has too many secrets hidden with no intention of giving away the answers. One night the two men experience the most incredible nights anyone could imagine, but Dean knows he must find his fiance and there can never be anything with Rob...Or can there? Also a mysterious lady in grey is following the carriage to each destination but why and what do the Earl and Rob have that could keep her on their tails? This book is wonderful to curl up with on a rainy day in your pajama's and an old homemade quilt. It was full of romance, secrecy and an amazing twist. This book is sure to keep you turning the pages and looking forward to the other works by MJ Pearson. Discreet Young Gentleman is a 5 heart read, and I suggest you add it to your library today.

Superlative Gay Regency

In my opinion, Ms. Pearson has a gift for Gay Regency romances that many Straight authors of romance might envy. Though a rather short novel, "Discreet Young Gentlemen" successfully presents its two protagonists believably and develops them to the reader's satisfaction - or at least to my satisfaction. Where some period authors bog the reader down in interminable "scene-setting" minutiae, Ms. Pearson presents such complementary details effectively and enjoyably, without ever making one wonder (as some authors unfortunately do) where the story went after reading three pages of technical data on wescots or paniers. The story moves smoothly; the romantic development is warm and sexy without ever becoming maudlin or cheap; there is adventure, mystery, humour and, of course, all the delights to be discovered when characters find themselves on "the path to True Love." Ms. Pearson is definitely an author of Gay romance whose works I can recommend. I've read both of her existing books and recommend them to anyone who enjoys this genre. I can't wait to see the third book the author is working on which, I understand, will deal with an English soldier and a French gentleman during the Napoleonic Era.

She's done it again!

Yes, fans of Price of Temptation, the author M.J.Pearson is a "she" and she has indeed done it again. I started reading Discreet Young Gentleman rather late in the evening and kept trying to put it down so I could get to sleep at a decent hour. But it became a losing battle as I could neither resist reading the rest of the ghost story (more than one ghost story as it turned out), nor leave Rob and Dean bereft, carriageless, (and barefoot) after being robbed. And then there was the mounting tension of the growing romantic attraction between the two midst all their trials and tribulations. Again M.J. tells the tale with great historical accuracy and unrelenting humor. So I read it all the way through and the price of that temptation was a grouchy, sleepy day at work. Ah well, I'll just start her next book early in the day. On a Saturday. Can't wait.

Charming M/M Romance!

MJ Pearson has done it again and I am delighted to add this to my list of favorite historical gay romance. This love story of a gentleman and a prostitute is a delightful read. The characters of our 2 heroes could not have been more different and MJ has done a great job developing them. Dean and Rob are endearing and I just have to find out what happened to them next. Like the previous reviewer comment this book is simply addictive. Good thing it is short enough to finish in one night! I prefer this to MJ's previous effort as I like my romance to keep the lovers together throughout the plot. MJ has also done a fine job exploring Dean's and Rob's attraction towards one another and the initial crossfire is fun.

An All-Nighter

As a kid, I used to secretly go through my sister's stash of Harlequin Romance novels. Since there's a high probability that my sister will see this post, so much for secrets! Well, a few days ago, I heard about "Discreet Young Gentleman." A trashy romance novel (I use the term lovingly), but with two guys?! It was a dream come true! I ordered it, received it yesterday, and only planned to read a couple of chapters. Well, I kept telling myself I would put it down... and then before I knew it, it was 5am in the morning and I had finished the book. It has dashing young men, ghosts, class conflict, internalized homophobia, severe body image issues (yes, really), and some rather hot lovin' romance novel-style. The author, MJ Pearson, injects a great deal of humor into the novel, but it's never saccharine. The comedic moments are done just right, and add to the poignancy of the lovers' dilemma. MJ Pearson is quite talented and I'm looking forward to reading more of her work!
