In City of Blood, Lt. Bressler assigns our hero, Harry Callahan to apprehend a particularly ellusive felon with a penchant for dismembering young women and blowing up buildings. He is partnered with an ego-less, ex-actor. Great part for Rick Schroder if anyone with intelligence would turn these thrilling books into movies. Well you can almost predict the fate of Harry's partner but what you can't predict are the wild twists and turns that the plot takes before the final confrontation between Harry and the killer. A great subplot finds Harry and his partner trying to find an urban legend in order to calm down a city gripped with panic over the gruesome attacks. Needless to say they don't have to look far for a boogyman to rival Michael Myers. Imagine Dirty Harry meets Halloween and you'll get the idea. If that scenario alone doesn't make you want to read this terrific book there is also the vertigo inducing pursuit of a pair of rooftop snipers. This book is almost the best in the series. Only Duel for Cannons can top it for overall impact. Harry has to go the limit in order to bring down this shadowy psycho. He takes action fans to this limit and beyond in the City of Blood.
