Fair play with clues, well paced and good crime scene study.

Unhappy with the investigation of the disappearance of her niece, FBI agent Lauren O'Connor comes to Texas and hires crime scene specialist Maris Middleton to assist her in the search. Early clues indicate foul play is a possibility as opposed to the local law theory that the sixteen year old is a runaway. The crime scene investigations are well done, realistic, and make interesting reading. The book is fast paced and the reader "plays fair" in providing clues while still giving the reader plenty to puzzle over. Two caveats: the romantic interest is Lesbian and, while less graphic than many heterosexual books, don't add to the mystery, nor does the use of certain conversational obscenities. Overall, a dandy puzzle that encourages the reader to buy any sequels.
