Devil of the Highlands

Read one out of this series and you have read them all. Same plot, same characters. Little humor. Try Julie Garwood for a comparison.

A wonderfully convoluted tale with murders unsolved and another in the making. Who did it? Who will gain? You have to read it to find out, a 13th century story set in Scotland will compel you to finish this book in one setting. Cullen, the ultimate strong silent type is a Highland Laird of the first order. Known as The Devil of Donnachaidh, Evelinde fears her life with her wicked stepmother is nothing compared to what she will experience at his hands. At least wed to the Devil she will be away from the woman whose aim in life since her father's death has been to make Evelinde suffer. A man of very few words Cullen finds marriage though hard, carries some wondrous rewards.

This is the book that got me hooked on Lynsey Sands. I love her humor!! Love a man in a skirt!

While reading Devil of the Highlands, I was reminded of another author that I liked when she wrote her earlier work. That author is Julie Garwood. Julie had some great fun books when she focused on the Historical Romance area in her earlier days. Today, she is focused more on mystery. I miss the author that she was. Reading this book, I felt like I was reading something close to what Ms. Garwood had written. This made me like the book even more. I even took steps in ordering Ms. Sands other books to see if I'll get the same experience with them as I did with this one. This is a "read in a day" kind of book. It was hard to put down.

this is my first book by Lynsay sands. it was a very good book from start to finish. i couldnt put it down.

I am, admittedly a fan of Sands' historical romance novels. I know some decry her for the history as wallpaper effect, but I enjoy the lightness. Her dialogue is typically sharp and witty, and her characters are usually very likable. I really liked Evalinde and Callun. They had instant chemistry. I know some readers find that off putting, but I like my h/h to like each other. I find it distracting when they spend most of the book disliking each other. That is not the case in this book. My biggest complaint about this book is that most of the story is told from Evalinde's point of view. This isn't a bad thing, as this heroine is intelligent, and likeable. She doesn't veer off into tstl territory. Unfortunately, this gives us little insight into the hero. He barely speaks through most of the book, and until the very end, we are seldom given much insight into his thought processes. There is also a lack of interaction with the h/h. I read this book in one night and I genuinely enjoyed it. It was over too fast, and I am anxiously awaiting her next historical.
