The debut of the new Frankie MacFarlane, Geologist, mystery series is a first-rate read. When a rare Alexandrite ring connects two dead bodies, Frankie finds herself between a rock and a hard place trying to crack the case.
When I taught preschool, one of my children's favorite units was rocks. Field trips were exciting adventures when youngsters were given opportunities to discover new treasures in the earth. Detachment Fault, to me, is a continuation of this study written on an adult level. Susan Cummins Miller, using her wonderful geological background, presents how our surroundings affect us. The plot starts with a bang and continues at full speed the entire novel. The mystery opens up new doors for an audience who wish to learn from their environment along with enjoying a powerful story. The geology enhances the entire book. Joyce Hodges

If you like Hillerman's characters, than you will probably like Miller's. She has captured the dry, honest character of the Arizona world and has a scientists eye for her surroundings. The stories just keep getting better! Thanks Ms. Miller and keep Frankie digging.
Action Packed and a really fine read

I could not put down this book. I found it exciting, fast moving, educational, terrorizing and just plain kept me on the edge of my seat. I didn't want it to end and I can't wait for book three to come out. Write fast, Susan!!!
