Memorable characters and breathtaking scenery

Phenomenal story written by an extremely talented author, enveloped the reader into the magical world of Arran ~Affaire de Coeur

Oh yes! I have a new favorite author. Heather Waters is a newer author, but she belongs with the b

This is Waters' second book. Her first book, The Devil's Possession (Berkley Sensation), is terrific. This one is even better. She has a way of making even her magical characters "real". They aren't superheros with attitudes. They are genuine personalities with fears, flaws, hopes, and dreams for the future. Their fae powers are unique from other books. They love deeply and fight for their loved- ones with everything they have. Destiny's Warrior was especially engaging because of the vast variety of both magical and human beings. If you enjoyed "Lord of the Rings", you'll love this book. Waters takes you on a journey through the fae world with pixies, brownies, ogres, water faeries, elves, succubi, and more. When war breaks out, it is with magic, swords, bows and arrows, and pure heroic bravery. Both the males and females take part in the fight. There is so much more to this book than I've found in most other romance novels of late. Gavin McCain has inherited the lairdship of his Scottish clan. He is afraid he will fail miserably at the task, but is determined to give it his best. Many things are not going his way. His sick mother is coming to his home to die. A young healer has been sent to care for her and make her passing as comfortable as possible. The pretty healer is an inconvenience. She distracts him from his duties. He can't help feeling "enchanted" by her presence. Nakkole is a faerie known as a "White Lady". The White Ladies guard the streams that lead to the fae world. When human males come near their waters, they enchant the men and send them safely home without knowledge of the world they almost discovered. Nakkole has been given a new task by the fae king, Arrane. He is sending her to the human world to teach his son about his fae powers and bring him home to the fae world of Arran. Arrane's son, Gavin, has never been told about his fae heritage. In fact, his mother did her best to teach him that magic is nonsense. Nakkole hopes to avoid using enchantment to convince Gavin about the Otherworld. She wants to tell him with open honesty. Gavin is feeling betrayed. This woman whom he had begun to care for is trying to trick him. Whatever her game is, he won't fall for it. Gavin has an older sister, Elphina, who is half succubus. She wants to kill Gavin and take the Arran crown for herself. King Arrane is near death. There is no time to lose. Elphina is queen of the dark fae. She sends her army to the human world to capture her brother. Gavin awakens in a dark cave, surrounded by creatures of magic. There is no more denying that Nakkole had told him the truth. He is ready to help his father free the Otherworld from dark magic. During the long journey to Arran, Nakkole begins to teach Gavin how to use his powers. With a small band of Gavin's human knights, a new ogre friend, and Nakkole's fae sister, Gavin and Nakkole find their way to Arran to join the king's fight against evil. Elphina ha

entertaining romantic fantasy

Fae King Arrane loses the love of his life when the human her cherishes Geraldine leaves his kingdom to keep their offspring safe from his ambitious purebred family. She returns to Scotland where she raised her son Gavin McCain as a single parent; she never told him of his Fae heritage although she never forgot her beloved Arrane. Years later, Laird Gavin McCain remains ignorant that magic exists let alone his paternal bloodlines affirm it until Lady Nakkole arrives to keep him from harm's way. Apparently, Gavin's half sister, Queine Elphina, a succubus's daughter, plans to usurp the Fae throne, but must get rid of the half-breed mortal heir. As purebred Nakkole performs her duty, she falls in love with the half-breed she protects. This is an entertaining romantic fantasy in which Waters' world seems genuine as the audience will, like the hero, begin to believe that magic is real. The key cast members insure the magical elements come across as plausible especially the metamorphosis of Gavin from scorn to true believer. However, the romance between Nakkole and Gavin seems intrusive as the fast-paced story line is at its best when magic outside of the heart rules. Harriet Klausner
