A descendant of Acadians exiled to the Louisiana Territory, Delphine Delaronde is raised by Captain Jean Bouclaire--and as a child falls in love with Bouclaire's partner, Philibert Bertrand. Once grown, Delphine confesses her love. But Philibert dismisses her and she flees to France. He then realizes what he has cast aside.
