Excellent

This book was a well written and very honest take on Timothy Treadwell's tragic story. While the author has compassion for Treadwell and values him as a human being, he does not sugar coat his behavior and actions that ultimately contributed to his death. A great read for bear enthusiasts and those interested in Timothy Treadwell. He seemed like a sweet, likable, but misinformed and troubled individual. May he rest in peace, along with his girlfriend Amie. A very tragic story, perhaps others can learn from it.

Death in the Grizzly Maze

I had watched the film on Timothy Treadwell's life and was very interested in reading more about what happened. I ordered this book hoping to learn more, which I did. I would recommend it to anyone that is interested in both sides of the story. Very well written.

Well Written and Researched Book!

I am a lifelong conservationist and environmentalist, and I read Timothy Treadwell's "Among Grizzlies" and was left with a nagging feeling that I was being lied to. I urge everyone to read "Death In The Grizzly Maze" to learn the truth about this alledged "Bear Whisperer". Ecco-celebrities want to bestow sainthood on Mr. Treadwell, but he does NOT deserve it. Timothy Treadwell was a mentally unstable man that caused not only his own death, but the death of a woman and ultimatley two of the very bears he "claimed" to protect. His reckless behavior, even after being repeatedly warned by wildlife biologists who new WAY more than he did, was juvenile and dangerous. He often lied to both supporters and officials about his conduct around the bears and finally paid the price for it. I urge everyone who read "Among Grizzlies" to also read this book.

Fair-minded treatment of controversial topic

Careful, thorough research and a fair-minded, balanced attitude lift this book above the usual melodramatic sensationalism that surrounds Treadwell's controversial life. The players are neither wicked villains nor super-heroes. Instead, they are well-meaning, but flawed people whose paths cross because of concern for grizzlies and fellow humans. Lapinski reports facts and allows readers to draw their own conclusions. When he editorializes from time to time, he says he's doing so and doesn't try to pass his opinions off as facts. If you're looking for simplistic answers to complex problems, you won't find them in this book. If you're a student of animal and human nature, you will appreciate the depth and breadth of this study.

Great book but sad story

Well written and documented by Mr. Lapinski. This book exposes the unfortunate truth about Timothy Treadwell. He had no idea what he was doing around these brown bears and because of his careless actions, he and his girlfriend lost their lives. He was also directly responsible for the eventual deaths of the bears that attacked him. I salute Timothy Treadwell for the ability to pull himself out of a life of heavy drug use and I also admired his determination to help the bears of Katmai. Unfortunately his complete disregard for established bear safety practices was the last thing that people and bears needed.
