A boy and his pet dragon are getting ready to go somewhere and he is taking a few books out of the bookshelf. "The red one and the blue one and the yellow one." They load the books into a wagon and now they have to "walk and walk" to the library. They each are carrying a lot of books and they have to go up, up, up the stairs to get inside. The boy and the dragon look at a bulletin board and see that during storytime the librarian will read "The Three Bears." The little boy said to his pet dragon and said, "This looks like fun. I want to see this." When they gathered around to listen to the story, they knew they would "have to be good." After the story they went to find something else. There were other children making jigsaw puzzles and also working on some trace the number pages. "I can do this-One-two-three. It is fun to do this." After working for a while it was time to select some books and head home. "Here we go. Mother will be happy to see us." This is a charming "beginning-to-read" book in a series that is very popular with the youngest readers. There are sixty-one words in the text, all listed in the back for extra practice. Many of the words are repeated in the text and this alone will help encourage the child to continue on to the end. The art work is very colorful, bright and cheerful. In the back of the book there is a "Reading Reinforcement" section covering phonemic awareness (plurals), phonics (consonant + y), vocabulary activities, suggestions on rereading the story and discussing it. This book will capture the imagination of a new generation of children!
