A young girl branches out socially after her father's remarriage has given her back the free time that her extra responsibilities after her mother's death used to take up. She takes up journalism and joins the school newspaper, acting as an anonymous advice columnist. Amanda enjoys the school paper, but has to adjust to her new social life, deflecting criticism from other veteran journalism students, juggling new suitors, and reaching out to form friendships with the classmates she had to ignore earlier. She is thrown for a loop by the questions she is asked, and one boy writes the newly back-in-the-loop Amanda to asks about how to approach the girl he likes. The book is well written, and juggles the different plot threads of friendship, competition, animosity and attraction well. Amanda's stepmother also isn't the stereotypical "evil" one, and Amanda's growing relationship with her, and Amanda's ambivalence, are well drawn-out. The mystery at hand is well-written, and even if readers guess where the end may be going, it doesn't make it any less enjoyable.
Amusing.
