Dead Man's Bounty

Fargo saves a pair of sisters from bushwhackers to find they are the daughters of legendary train robber and shootist Three-Gun Pete LeFleur - who has finally fallen to a bounty hunter's bullet - and they're trying to deliver his body to its proper burial site. But since the price on his head can be claimed whether he's brought in dead or alive, there are those who see the contents of his coffin as cold, hard cash. This book gives us a Fargo more like he was written way back when the series began, a colder character who's confidence in getting his way with women comes over as almost arrogant. Jon Sharpe fills the book with incident and action, many of the gunfights, deaths, being described graphically as Fargo has to defend the women and the body of their father from the many men who are hunting them. There's not a lot in the way of twists and turns that many Trailsman books offer but this can't be held against what is a fast paced story that will more than satisfy readers of this series.

Skye Fargo has roamed the west for a long time, using his wits and his gun where necessary. He has grown edgier and more human if possible. He wouldn't be human if he didn't follow his instincts concerning Harmony and Charity. This new element is enjoyable. Dead Man's Bounty is a quick read with surprising turns of events. No one can be trusted and Skye will get the game figured out but Pete has one final surprise for his daughters. Can Skye keep them alive long enough to find it or will Harmony and Charity do him in?

This August 2006 episode of the Trailsman is a rip roaring saga in the continuing tale of Skye Fargo. It has all the elements of a spell binding western.A great tale which is filled with lots of adventure,shoot-outs,hand to hand fighting with Indians as well as encounters with Mountain Men, and all with impossible seeming odds.The two sisters who Skye has befriended are able to challenge him to the limit and even beyonds at times.It is not often that we see our hero get to the point where he wants to get rid of a pair of lovely damsels; but this time these two push him to the limit. A straight forward western with surprises all along the way,with an ultimate surprise at the end. If a western with lots of action and surprises and little in the way of a who dunnit,is your preference;you'll find this one much to your liking. Once again,as so often the case with the Trailsman series,there are a couple of super pictures on the cover that show what you're in for with this story.
