a good YA read for girls

I purchased Dead Is So Last Year along with all of the other novels in the series for my classroom library. I read the novel for appropriateness for my students. I must admit it was a fun supernatural read. My copies of the Dead Is... series are so beat up that I have to replace them. This is my second copy of Dead Is So Last Year. My girls love it. By word of mouth, students from other teachers and other grades come to borrow the Dead Is... series books. I feel that this series is well worth the cost to replace.

Wonderful!

Marlene Perez is an amazing writer, the Dead is series is probably my favorite series. Normally i'm not huge on reading books but from page one the Dead Is series caught me and wouldn't let me go. Great Series Wonderful Writer. Cant Wait For the next book!

The Giodano sisters are back from a summer vacation in Italy, and things in Nightshade are as strange as ever when they get back. The first thing Daisy wants to do when she gets home is see her boyfriend, Ryan. She has missed him and can't wait to get over to his house. Daisy is disappointed to find out that he is at football practice, but heads over to the school anyway. She is very surprised by what she sees. Ryan has really buffed up in the weeks she's been gone and so, it seems, have most of the other football players. Since there are still several weeks left in summer, Daisy decides she should get a job. She notices that Slim's has a "Help Wanted" sign in the window, and with her love of cooking, she feels this would be a perfect fit. After leaving work one evening, she notices someone digging in the dumpster in the alley. Strangely, it appears to be her missing father. After other strange appearances in town, the Nightshade City Council comes to the conclusion that Doppelgangers are on the loose, causing havoc in town. Daisy and her sisters have to figure out what is going on. Is there something strange causing the football team to get super-strong in such a short time? Who is creating the Doppelgangers? Is Mr. Giodano really back or is he a Doppelganger, too? DEAD IS SO LAST YEAR is a fun conclusion to a cute trilogy. Marlene Perez has a knack for writing with user-friendly, non-intimidating language. The only drawback is you definitely need to read the trilogy in order. So, readers, take heed - read DEAD IS THE NEW BLACK, then DEAD IS A STATE OF MIND, and finally DEAD IS SO LAST YEAR. Reviewed by: Karin Librarian

Great supernatural teen series

This is the third book in a series about a psychic family, the Giordanos. In this book, the mother of the family is in Italy using her psychic skills to work on a case, so the three daughters are left in the strange town of Nightshade. They find out that someone in town has been creating doppelgangers of local citizens. There have also been many sightings of rogue werewolves around town. Once again, the three girls use their powers to try to discover who has been making trouble. Another twist in the story revolves around their absent dad who suddenly shows up in town again. This is a fast fun read for mystery, paranormal, and light romance fans. Recommended for ages 12+.

Waiting for More

Dead Is So Last Year left me anxiously awaiting the next book in the series. Perez' writing is tight and easy to follow and the storyline is action packed. The characters in the book have developed further, though a little more Ryan and Sam would have been nice. With a town as full of interesting characters as nightshade, it's easy to find a favorite character in every book. Although I wish the books were a little longer (simply because I hate when I'm finished with them), this is a fun paranormal series! I will be impatiently awaiting the next book in the series, Dead Is Just A Rumor, due out in fall of 2010.
