Book Overview

Exciting and Thrilling

When I say I could not put this book down, I mean it! A courtroom drama with the drama and intensity of a psychological thriller, this book delivers. The main characters are a husband and wife, both lawyers. One is the DA, the other is the defense attorney--and they are forced to fight each other. You could not ask for more in a mystery and legal thriller!

Really good book

I think the book was really good. Most of the above reviews are, excuse me but, they're BS. The book is really good and I enjoyed it. I just couldn't stop reading. If you want more good books read the other four best sellers by Brad Meltzer. And just for your info read reviews from few web sites, not just one. It will give you more broad idea about the book. And after all it you never know if you'll like it or not, untill you read it for yourself.

Great "Can't put down" book!

This was an awesome book! It just kept getting better and better and I stayed up til 3am just to finish it. The end of the book was just fantastic. I felt like I was watching a movie, the details were so descriptive. I loaned ( I say loan because I will want to read it again some day) the book to some of my friends and they loved it as much as I did. A Must Read!!

Meltzer's dialogue is dead on

A response to readers who think the language used by Meltzer's characters is unrealistic: these comments must come from people who don't have much contact with anyone under 35, because this is _exactly_ the way we talk. You may not like it, but it's true to life. [And just to prove it] Dead Even kicks butt!!!

Great story, suspenseful from page one till the end

How anyone who reads in this genre could give Dead Even less than five stars is completely beyond me. This is a great story, combining a compelling premise with brisk pacing and straightforward writing without one wasted word. I noticed from some of the other reviews that readers wrote off Jared and Sarah as self-involved yuppies and I disagree completely. Jared's a very likeable urban guy. And Sarah, who mentors a teenager from a tough neighborhood, has a wonderful sense of humor and a toughness that charms. The best aspects of their personalities are illuminated by the premise itself. Jared loves his wife and is put it a terrifying situation to save her life. Sarah, likewise. The tension between them is believable, and it brings a terrific undercurrent of intrigue to the rest of the story. People magazine's comparison of Meltzer to John Grisham and David Baldacci is shallow. Baldacci's books are twice as long as they should be. And as evidenced by "The Street Lawyer," John Grisham no longer seems very concerned about plot, story, tension, prose or anything else that's expected to hold a reader's attention. Sorry to sound pissy, but books these days are expensive. It's a bummer when you spend big bucks because of the hype on a book jacket. But when you do get your money's worth, you have to hand it to the writer who created the magic. Take my advice. Buy this book.
