Young girl in the Old Order Dunker community must choose to follow the way, or break away, struggling with her agonizing turmoil and inner conflict. This description may be from another edition of this product.
Betsy was brought up in the Old Order Amish faith. Her father was an elder so was her uncle John and Uncle Abe. She had many questions about her faith and liked hanging out with friends at school who weren't from the Old Order. She liked worldy things and enjoyed music, art, and literature. Through high school, her family tried persuading her to join the church, but she just wasn't ready. As she got older, she wanted to go to college. Her family permitted her to go. She kept company with 3 or 4 fellows who were interested in winning her hand in marriage. Her family wanted her to marry one particular man, but she wasn't interested in marriage at all. Later, she became a teacher after college, and paid way for her brother to go to college too. She finally settled on which fellow to marry and came to a conclusion about religion. This book is wonderful and is full of scripture. The Amish folk definately have a mysteriousness about them. It is very refreshing and teaches us how not to be of this world and to belong to God.
