Tabitha Emery does not want to admit she has clairvoyant visions. She merely wants to live a normal singles life free from any weirdness. Instead she finds herself in the midst of a murder investigation involving black magic and is under police scrutiny as a result of her visions. Meanwhile, she has finally attracted the attention of attorney Clay Sanderson, but Scrying Room owner, Lucien Roskell, also appears very interested. Can Tabitha stay out of trouble while helping uncover the real culprit? DATING CAN BE DEADLY is a fun and sassy story! Tabitha is a great main character as she seems very real and down to earth. She isn't airheaded or overly concerned with fashion but she also isn't oblivious to fashion either. Her level-headed approach to the visions, despite the exuberance of her friends, makes her clairvoyance believable. After all, she really doesn't want to have these visions or be embroiled in a murder investigation! Wendy Roberts is to be commended for creating such a likeable character. The romance element is enjoyable as Tabitha is torn between two very different men. Lucien is that tall, dark, handsome man everyone dreams about while Clay is the golden-haired professional. Lucien runs a magical shop called the Scrying Room while Clay is a top notch attorney. In fact, Lucien and Clay are almost exact opposites in every way except for their mutual admiration of Tabitha. Wendy Roberts does a phenomenal job at the character development as Lucien and Clay are almost as well developed as Tabitha, making for one intriguing story! DATING CAN BE DEADLY perfectly combines the paranormal with the chick lit genre. From the characters to the storyline itself, DATING CAN BE DEADLY is entertaining and surprisingly suspenseful. Wendy Roberts' debut effort is a definite keeper as she weaves a tale that will keep readers rapidly turning the pages in order to find out whodunit. COURTESY OF CK2S KWIPS AND KRITIQUES
Perfect bedtime read!

Wendy Robert's debut novel is incredibly funny, fast paced, interesting and suspenseful. This is Chick Lit at its best. The main character, Tabitha Emery's clairvoyancy gets her wrapped up in a murder mystery of the occult. While she balances solving this murder amature style, she also deals with her almost-going-nowhere job, crazy neighbor, lust inducing boss, wild and funny friends, and lack of funds -- not to mention Lucien, the hot owner of an occult shop who doesn't hide his sexual attraction to her. Funny from start to finish, but also gets a bit scary. I enjoyed it because of its fast pace and realness. Tabitha loses her job, she worries about money, she frets over her social life and lack of sex life, and she prefers Archie and Veronica over Nancy Drew. Bonus for me! Its relatable, and very well written. I'm giving it five stars, but the one problem I had was the murder was solved 1-2-3, way too fast, like 'here's the muderer! he's in jail, now, lets finish up the story.' However, a great debut novel. I reccomend!
When Chick Lit Meets Mystery...

Meet Tabitha. After having her purse snatched while waiting for the bus with her friend Jenny one evening, she comes across something very disturbing in a graveyard. Blessed (or is it cursed?) with the gift of clairvoyance, it's not the first time Tabitha has been able to see visions of horrible things to come. Sure enough, she is soon thrown headlong into a mystery involving a woman's death, two handsome men, an old abandoned building, disgusting beetle bugs, and frightening nightmars and visions. Somehow she must get to the bottom of the mystery because it seems whoever is responsible has chosen her for his next victim... With a plethora of intriguing details about witchcraft and clairvoyance mixed in with drinks with the girls, dates with handsome unobtainable men, and Tabitha's mounting frustration, "Dating Can Be Deadly" was a very satisfying read. The author does an amazing job of capturing the reader's attention and holding it until the end. No predictability about the plot whatsover - I was hooked until the very last page because of the suspense. This book could easily fall into the Paranormal chick lit category because of Tabitha's gift, but is also quite at home in the mystery category. "Dating Can Be Deadly" has plenty of laugh-out-loud moments and a frothy concoction of drinks, dates and dead bodies. I simply loved this book! Overall I highly recommend this book to all Mystery and chick lit fans alike. There is something for everyone in this hilarious and suspenseful novel - don't miss it!
A Paranormal Mystery For The Down To Earth Chick

At first glance Tabitha Emery seems like a normal gal. She is somewhat less than ambivalent about her office job, cares enough about her health to quit smoking but not enough to work out, frets over money, enjoys hanging out with her girlfriends-perfectly normal. But at closer inspection Tabitha has one very prominent and abnormal characteristic-she's a clairvoyant and no amount of denial on her part will make this unwanted gift go away. But as much as she hates her psychic abilities they never actually put her life at risk-that is they didn't until she starts to have vivid visions of a gruesome ritualistic murder that the police are investigating. Of course when Tabitha tells the police what she knows they immediately put her on the top of their suspect list and it isn't long before she realizes that the only way she is going to be able to get on with her life is if she uses her visions to solve the crime herself. In the process of her investigation her life begins to unravel, she finds herself on the brink of losing her apartment, her job-not to mention her sanity. The only thing that is working out for her is her social life-for the first time in what seems like forever not one but two attractive men are vying for her attention. Of course there's always the chance that they are not so much interested in being part of her life as they are in ending it. You don't have to be a fan of the paranormal to enjoy this book. Tabitha has all the characteristics of a great Chick Lit protagonist; she's flawed yet endearing, insecure, but not annoyingly so and she's often quite funny. What's amazing is how Roberts is able to stay true to the irreverent tone of the Chick Lit genre while simultaneously weaving a suspenseful and often frightening-to-the-point-of-being-creepy mystery. This book is definitely worth your while.
fine paranormal chick lit who-done-it

In Seattle, legal receptionist Tabitha Emery is with her friend Jenny Alton when someone snatches her purse. They give chase, but fail to catch the thief. Tabitha begins blinking and soon she has a vision that leads the twosome to a mutilated cat inside a pentagram. Not long afterward, another "vision" takes Tabitha and Jenny to a dumpster filled with blood. Jenny calls the police and cynical Detective Jackson handles the case once the blood is identified as human. Through friends Tabitha meets Lucien Roskell, owner of the Scrying Room and very understanding of her gift-curse. Lucien wants Tabitha, but she craves friendly attorney Clay Sanderson even though two years without a pass and his fiancée is beautiful and pregnant. As the clairvoyance continues to follow a cult death march, the killer begins to target the only person who might eventually identify him or her, Tabitha, who Jackson suspects is more intimately involved in the ritual serial killings than she tells the cops. DATING CAN BE DEADLY is a divine paranormal chick lit who-done-it that grips the audience from the first blood to the last blood and a "pity" F coda. The story line is action-packed but driven clearly by the delightful in denial Tabitha who insists she has no talent although her blinking says otherwise. The support cast fuels the tale with excitement as each key ensemble member adds depth to the heroine or the mystery. Fans will demand Wendy Roberts bring back Tabitha, her friends and lover for another clairvoyant amateur sleuth mystery. Harriet Klausner
