Dangerous Skies

The plot of the story is in the Chesapeake Bay. It is around the 1700's at Virginia's eastern shore. The main characters are Buck and Tunes Smith. Buck's family used Tunes' dad (Kneebone) as a slave before she was born but was nice to him. Once Tunes was born Buck was born around the same time as she was. They became best friends until they found the dead body of one of theirs friends while they were out on the water some day in spring. Tunes ended up getting out of the boat since she saw the dead body. Buck pulled the body into shore and was questioned by the sheriff. Buck didn't want to get Tunes involved so he acted like she was never there when they found the dead body. Later in the story Buck told his dad the Tunes had been with him while on the water and his dad made him go back to Sheriff and tell him that Tunes was involved. They then convicted Tunes of the crime but there was a mean man that lived close to them. You will have to read the rest of the story to find out what happens next. I like this book because it was non stop action and there was a lot of friendship involved. This is one of the best books. I would give this book five out of five stars since it is fun and exciting. By: Curtis Martin

Wonderful story about friendship, life, and changes.

Stunning. One of the top 10 books I have ever read. The author writes it so that you can feel the characters emotions. The ending of the story really touched me. I find it hard to read books about changes. I sort of want things to always be the same. "I'd also lost the notion there was magic in the world. I guess you could say I'd lost my childhood," is in my opinion one of the saddest parts of the book. Also, the part where Kneebone tells Buck that the good times are gone forever and that things would never be the same between the two, and the part that Buck says that Obie lost his heart for the Bay. I could go on forever talking about how great this book is. Its a moving book and I would recommend everyone who needs a good story to read it.

Growing up is hard to do

After reading "Shabanu: Daughter of the Wind", I was anxious to read another of Suzanne Staple's books, and she didn't let me down. Besides the normal problems associated with growing up, Buck and Tunes also face the possibility of Tunes going to jail for the murder of Jorge. Buck's undying trust and tenacity to prove that Tunes is innocent leaves the reader turning the pages and rooting for both Buck and Tunes. This is a wonderful book to explore race relationships and growing up with middle grade to high school students.

Dangerous Skies

I rate Dangerous Skies five stars out of five because it is an excellent book to read and it keeps you reading more. I liked this book very much because it had a lot of excitement and it made you want to read more to find out what would happen next. In this book there was a murder and everybody thought it was this girl so that kept me reading on to see if she really committed the crime or not. There is another book like this and it is called Haveli it is a little different but it has to do with a murder. Dangerous Skies is more exciting and has more adventure. In Dangerous Skies a black girl and her dad work on Buck Smith's farm. Her name is Tunes. It all started when Tunes and Buck were out fishing and in a boat when they were fishing and they spot a dead body floating along the shore of their property. Buck suspects that it is Jumbo but the landowner thinks it is Tunes since she is new. The adults can't help. While Buck is talking to Tunes Bucks finds something out that will turn everything around to figure out who killed the person that was floating in the lake

A great book written aboout friendship.

A great book written about friendship. Racism between the native American and an African American is the main point of this book. The main character Buck is my favorite character in the book because the author "Suzzane Fisher Staples" created him as a clever and brave boy. Buck tried his best to help his friend Tunes, an African American, to get out of the trouble but he didn't make it. The reason was human racial prejudice. The racism between the black people and white people let Tunes get into the jail. The book had a lot of funny and sad things happend. Including crime and human nature, let my emotion followed the characters up and down. When Buck and Tunes went fishing and hunting together, those setting had vivid in my mind. Although Tunes didn't kill anyone, she was accused by white men and put into jail, and the friendship between her and Buck was forceibly stopped. I could almost remember all the things happened in the book the story hooked me so much. When I looked at the cover page of this book, I thought that is would be so boring, but when I stared reading the book, I felt really interesting and I loved it so much. I recommend it to all tenagerous who would like to read more aboout friendship and racism.
