Polly and her friend Jennifer maintain a lifelong friendship despite the fact that they are both competing for the same award in the same ballet class, both young dancers trying to make it professionally in New York City. However, as Polly branches out, finds a boyfriend, and considers her career options, Jennifer bristles, and their tenuous friendship is tested. Polly meets a big-talking L.A. emigre named Cott, and takes him down a notch. Turns out Cott is trying to escape his father's legacy as a television producer. The girls live an exciting, high-profile life, and New York is even better described than in "Sweet Dreams"' "All's Fair in Love". Although long, the book is a likeable one; in fact, it's rather like two good books. A long read that doesn't drag.
