Top notch guide to Cubase

As a beginner in the electronic music field. I was able to plough through this book with ease. Now I don't usually crow about the style of a book, but this was a wonderful read and helpful too. Don't hedge your bets and root out this book. Mr. Brown certainly knows his arse from his elbow.

an excellent resource

great job of describing midi and sequencing. you don't need cubase, as everything can be done on other sequencers as well, but it's a bonus. steinberg (cubase's creator) listens to dance musicians in making changes to the program, so it's fitting that was the sequencer used with the book. i recommend for the beginner and for the musician trying to 'tighten up' his/her sound or perhaps some pointers in how to sequence for a particular genre.

Excellent Book!

I'd like to commend the publishing of "Dance Music Programming Secrets" by Roger Brown. I would give my strongest endorsement for purchasing to ANY fellow computer musician regardless of skill level. Although I do not own Cubase, Roger Brown's enthusiasm and thoroughness in his use of the program is a very strong incentive toward buying it."

excellent MIDI book, in depth on the IPS, nice CD-ROM

A great resource for MIDI in Cubase. Very effective, "do it" approach to instruction. LOTS of information on the Logical Editor and Interacitve Phrase Synthesizer, two powerful but funky parts of Cubase. The MIDI instructions are Cubase specific, but the discussions of dance music in general are also good, and worthwhile reading for anyone making that kind of music
