Damaged But Not Destroyed

Author Kia Dupree's is not just your typical story about a child growing up in the foster care system in Damaged. Camille Logan's life may have its similarities to the stories we are used to hearing about, but how she handles her life and the strength she holds onto is proof that to overcome situations that can destroy your life is definitely possible. Camille's drug-addicted mother walked away leaving her in the care of a loving grandmother, but it was not long that her home was completely shattered when her grandmother passed away. The state stepped in and placed Camille in foster care, and as is usually the case, the first home would not be the last foster home she would live in. Finally, finding herself living with the Brinkley's, an alleged religious home, with a fanatic mother and a child molester for a father, it was Camille's relationships with her foster sister and the three biological sons of the family that helped her most days. With Mrs. Brinkley turning a blind eye to what she knew was going on under her roof, it was not long before the things going on under her roof had to be dealt with, and Camille did the next best thing she could do-- leave. Moving in with her drug-dealer boyfriend, Chu, Camille was exposed to far more than a 15-year old should have ever been. To avoid going back into the foster care system, Camille never looked back, and it was her street smarts that kept her alive, but would making such adult decisions cause her to lose everything, including who she is? The reason I enjoyed Damaged so much was because of the vivid scenes and raw emotion the characters exhibited. The story was written in an `in your face' fashion that you cannot help but to feel and see what you read. It helped me to see that there is more to growing up in a terrible foster care situation than just telling the story; it felt like I was in the story itself. 2010 Best Read

I won't give the story away but all i can say is WOW. Certainly an easy read and a page turner. Ending was also good. Check it out for yourself.....

Still Speechless...

This book was riveting. This is not normally my genre of books but I was so intrigued by the description on the back that I decided to read it. I'm so glad that I did. The book was VERY very good and I literally could not put it down. I read it in two days, and it would have been shorter if I didn't have to work. If you are considering this book I DEFINITELY recommend it.

Dayummmmmmm

That's how fire I thought this book was.I am normally a pretty slow reader and if you knew me you could tell by the amount of tbr books on my bookselves. But with that said.I got this book yesterday along with several other's and something just told me don't just put that on your book self leatha you better read that girl. And it's a good thing I listtened cause this book is so good I read it in one day.I fell in love with Chu's and Camille's.And Nut well let's just say it's a good thing I dont know him cause murder is the case they would give me j/k.All jokes outside I love this book and will be looking forward to whatever Kia Dupree has in store for us in the future.

Couldn't Put It Down!!!

Not only was this an enjoyable read but a definite page turner! The character developments were wonderful and the author gives enough information on the characters to feel emotions for/with them. Without giving away any of its plots -- Damaged isn't just about prostitution, drugs, guns, materialistic things and getting paid. It's a telling of how street life, in general, can change the lives of the most innocent. This book is the story of how life can throw you curve balls and how you can make the best (or worst) of them. This is the second book by Ms. Kia DuPree that I've enjoyed reading and I look for her to keep them coming!! ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!!
