Current Medical Diagnosis & Treatment

I had a prior edition of this book and was very satisfied with it. As a general review it is fast and detailed enough. I was taking the USMLE tests back then. Now I am doing my residency training, and I am in Psychiatry; but I still need an updated source to review about other problems that my patients may have. It is not as detailed and slow to read as other texts (Farreras-Rozman, Harrison) and still does the job.

Although not fancy by any means, the Current Medical Diagnosis and Treatment (CMDT) is a fantastic portable referance for primary care providers. It is easy to use and read with various invaluable tables and charts. For the price, the CMDT is a great first choice. The CMDT is considered the Physician Assistants' and Nurse Practitioners' "bible" for passing certification exams.

This is an excellent book. Full of updated information. An extremely good reference source. Easy to use. I feel this book is a "must have" for any medical personal or for those interested in medicine.

For med students, or those looking for a through but not overwhelmingly detailed discussion of almost every major medical condition you'll come across, this book does an excellent job integrating the salient aspects of clinical management - physiology, social factors, pharmacology, laboratory work-up, etc. Great lengths have obviously been taken to keep the text up to date. A great resource. Far more user friendly than Harrison's - and one quarter of the weight.

CMDT is at least one of the best books for all family doctors - and for all patients. There are probably few works that have become as widely admired and as indispensable by implacably keeping to the most srtingent scientific tradition of rigor and precision, as elegantly written and as thoroughly updated. I have made it a yearly ceremony to look for the last edition of this outstanding book, purchase a copy for myself and one for my family doctor and close friend Dr. D'Hoore, read it, lend it to all eagerly waiting friends for them to consult with it their hopes and fears, and carefully keep it on my shelves for my son and daughters to open it one day with awe and respect for the wisdom of their health-giving forebears.
