great book!

This book was the best price that I found online and in any bookstore! I highly recommend this!

Many students keep this book

Like Rufo, I have also taught college English since 1999. I have used Current Issues & Enduring Questions since 2000 or so. This book helps students learn needed concepts and skills much more than (hate to say it), literature-based readers. It is so well-designed and thought-out, and each edition, having now used three, grows stronger. That's from a teacher's perspective. I find students engaged, their work is fantastic, and they read things that should be part of anyone's education - then they can synthesize these readings with their experience and growth. Yes, students really do get engaged, and really do keep this book. That is a real "first" for me, in terms of a "college English text." This is my "good deed" of the day. Be sure to order with enough time in advance to receive your book as you order it for your classes (especially used versions).

critical thinking

This book contains many interesting issues that affect our daily lives. Topics are very well put together and allows the reader to think about challenges that surround us.

Current issues and enduring questions

The book is just what I needed for class. Also I find it to be very helpful in writing papers

An excellent reference text for readings on contempory issue

The book is in two parts: the first lays down the elements of citical thinking and the art of dissecting an argument, and the second is an excellent selection of readings which offer both pro and con views on a wide variety of social and moral subjects.I find myself continually referring to the second section of the book, because the readings selected are compelling, and very well written. They include modern writers, as well as the best writings of past authors who explore contemporary issues of their day. That they continue to be "hot" issues today speaks to the continuing struggle we have with certain kinds of issues. After each pair of readings the authors have offered a series of questions for further thought, which can be used for independent analysis of the reading, or as part of a course in critical thinking. I found these questions very helpful in stimulating discussion with others, especially those with strong feelings in the subject areas. This book has become a "must read" in my circle of critically thinking frinds.
