Dr. Criswell was my pastor growing up but it was not until late that I realized what a great leader, innovator, and mentor he was. This book is one that I keep close by my side. It is a years worth of seminary clearly laid out in a wonderful book. It really is a must have for any pastor from emergent to traditional. It's principles transcend all religious sects.

This is practical, helpful, like an old veteran of the pulpit taking a young pastor under his wing for some fatherly advice but also practical help for funerals, weddings, hospital visits, evangelism, and being a pastor.

The need for deep Bible knowledge in preaching - rely on the Bible and do not spend so much time in illustrations or stories!4. Relationship between the pastor and church officers.5. Pastoral do's and don'ts.While the book is over 20 years old and newer information may be found in other titles, some principles, such as spending ample time alone with Jesus, are timeless!Read the book and be encouraged in the Lord!

Dr. Criswell's Guidebook for Pastors? is well named. The book is Dr. W.A. Criswell?s manual on pastoral ministry. In the 385-page volume he examines a wide variety of aspects in pastoral ministry including the pastor?s personal life, devotional life, sermon preparation, sermon delivery, staff relationships, church polity, church finances, building projects, and counseling. It includes examples of wedding ceremonies, funeral services, instructions for administrating church ordinances, and numerous other beneficial guidelines for novices. Criswell is practical, clear, and comprehensive. Despite the fact that portions seem antiquated, the underlying principles are of significant value in today?s church. The greatest tribute to the book is the life and ministry of the man who penned it. Dr. Criswell was the greatly respected pastor of First Baptist in Dallas, Texas and was the president of the Southern Baptist Convention 1969-70.
