Criminal Science has provided a great background for a number of recent popular TV shows. CSI is one of the first. The main characters are using science to figure out how a crime was committed, and who committed the crime. This book is a good introduction to forensics for children. I enjoyed reading it. It is a quick read. It covers a lot of basics. The book explores fingerprinting, fake money, recognizing hand writing, hackers, being able to ID a criminal, and identifying a victim from a skull. I learned a few new things. For example police have been able to anticipate possible places for where a crime will happen given on the location of other similar crimes. Many Criminals have a "comfort zone" and will steal in the same area of town. Once these are plotted on a computer it can help the police to narrow down where the next burglary may occur. If you have children with any interest in understanding how science helps police, this is a good book to start with.
