Over the holidays, I rediscovered this cooking book buried deep in a cardboard box containing cookbooks my 91-year old mother had long-ago packed away. I still remember how precious it was to me in 1973/75 when the book was first published - I was single and in my early 20's then and never even thought about cooking anything unless it was already prepared in a frozen container or in a can ... too busy trying to maintain an uneven balance between making enough money to live on and boys and "partying" ... remember the days?? Well, back to the reason for this review! Note that I DO NOT call this book a COOKBOOK, for it is truly a COOKING BOOK ... and the reason for how precious it is to me is that my mother actually edited recipes for the book. She proudly brought a copy home and showed it to me and confided that it was not only the best cooking book she had ever read, it was also the best work she had ever done as an editor, as well as the most satisfying work she had ever done as an editor. Please know that my mother was just one of the many editors who worked for the publisher & Ms. Turgeon, but if you have never heard of the CREATIVE COOKING BOOK EDITED BY CHARLOTTE TURGEON, you have missed a dream book. It is absolutely the most comprehensive, well thought-out, beautifully presented, informative cooking book you could ever own. Of course I might be prejudiced somewhat because of my mother's affiliation with the book, but not so much that I would exaggerate the truth or outright lie about it. If you obtain a copy, you will never, ever regret it!

This book describes and illustrates cookery, classic cooking in a way not done anymore. A terrific addition to my cookery library.
The Creative Cooking Course

I've had this book for about 20 years and loved it. It's not for the inexperienced cook, but it is well written and it is easy to follow. It challenges even the experienced cook. Great illustrations of final presentation makes deciding what to serve easy. Wonderful book and now I have to replace mine, because mine was destroyed while overseas.

I have had this cook book for about 12 years now and am always pulling it out for new ideas and yummy recipies. Even though I'm no longer a novice and can cook without a recipe now, this book has been one of my favorites since I purchased it. It has color photos and detailed instructions to help anyone prepare successful, mouthwatering recipes. I like the fact that The Creative Cooking Course book not only covers all areas of the culinary arts, but general information on tools, kitchen arrangement, equipment, as well. I highly recommend it!
