What You're NOT Taught in School!

"Cracks in the Constitution" puts to rest the idea taught in every history and government class in the U.S. that the U.S.Constitution is an almost sacred document written by men who were practically saints in their ability to craft a whole new type of government. It points out that even the men (and they WERE all male, white landowners) who managed to put it together were not, for the most part, happy with the results. It also makes clear that these same men had no intent of including women, minorities, or even non-landowning white males in among the famous "We the people" introduction. The American Revolution and the constitution was about white landowners who were not nobility declaring THEIR rights vs. white landowners who WERE part of Britain's nobility at the time. The book also shows how our Supreme Court and Presidents, especially, have made the constitution mean whatever they WANTED it to mean over the years by INTERPRETING it as they saw fit. He also mentions the way that the Founding Founders set up our government keeps the great majority of us in the dark as far as knowing exactly WHAT our politicians are up to as well as making us really UNABLE to "throw the bums out" by voting, thereby changing the government, REGARDLESS of what the majority wants. This vs. Great Britain's constitution, which he talks about in great detail, showing how that country managed to skirt such problems in their own government. A highly detailed and eye opening read. In short, if you are not part of the upper crust in our country, you have very little chance of having any real say whatsoever under this constitution, regardless of what our politicians, mainstream media, teachers, etc. tell you. He says our constitution needs to be changed. Fat chance of THAT happening! Sobering, eye opening, and sad. Read ONLY if you are ready to have some bubbles broken.

Not Just a Rant

Lundberg is one of the great contrarians of the last century. He is generally outraged and only sometimes outrageous. This book is an impassioned and intelligent look at what the Constitution can and can't do. This isn't just an opinion piece. Lundberg is firmly grounded in looking at history to understand the dynamics of American power. Quite an accomplishment.

Insightful book

I read it a few years ago and agree it is a very good book indeed. I concur with the first reviewer.

What Constitution ?

Lundberg exposes the propaganda that is fed to Americans from chilhood about their so-called "inalienable rights". He points out case after case of how the government manipulates the Constitution and invents new language through court interpretations to deny or allow your "rights". This book made me angry and opened my eyes. Contrary to what we have been indoctrinated, you are not guaranteed any rights that the government doesn't want you to have. Lundberg shoots down every "myth" about what you think you know about the Constitution. You will learn that this government is in business for business. Anyone with an inquiring mind about history, government and the betterment of mankind will find this book fascinating and scary.
