It's the shell....the pure core...

The book lives upto its promises and explains all the advanced features that have been incorporated in Java.I used it basically for java rmi and beans.If you really want to enjoy java's newer features...go for it.

The best bootstrap I have seen.

After reading these two volumes (Core Java 1.1 vol. I & II), only hands-on experience will truly add anything.I have managed to go from interested sparetime testing to implementing full-fledged solutions in just two weeks after-work studying by reading them. Highly recommended

If you are an experienced Java programmer, this book should be on the top of your wish list.  The chapter 7, 'Java Beans', alone is well worth the price of the book.  I have not seen that many Java books that are as thorough as this one.  It is very obvious that the authors of this book put so much efforts into this book to make it better than previous edition.
