The Butte, Montana mines were in full swing in the 1880s, producing large amounts of gold and silver with copper being a nasty by-product. Along came the Copper Barons and Marcus Daly decided to build his own smelter in Anaconda to save the costs of shipping the copper ore to Wales for smeltering. Several stories are intertwined throughout the book and it keeps the reader's attention. A good book, very factual, but the story ends leaving too many threads that need to be tied up. I was hoping for a sequel.
