Constance Verity Saves the World

Best way to say it is that if you liked the first book (which I did), you'll like this one (again, I did). It definitely has an "Act II" vibe to it. The villainous group the book centers around Siege Perilous (while essentially just a spoof of Cobra from G.I. Joe) make for a fun and imaginative group of antagonists with a lot of personality and gets a lot more focus than the many unrelated villains in the first one. This has its pros and its cons, as while the first book has the vibe of all of Connie's adventures coalescing, here it feels like yet another adventure that just so happens to interfere with her social life, specifically her relationship with her "normal" boyfriend. This leads to the stakes of the books feeling lower than the first (though it's hard to top the destruction of the universe when you get down to it). All in all, a worthy addition to the saga, making for an enjoyable McDonalds playground-esq cooldown after the first book.
