Book Overview

A laugh-out-loud memoir about a city slicker who discovers that Manolos and manure just don't mix. At her husband's prompting, suburban mom and New York career woman Susan McCorkindale agreed to give up her stressful six-figure job. Together, they headed down south to a 500-acre beef farm, and never looked back. Well, he didn't look back. She did. A lot. From playing ?spot the religious billboard? on the drive to rural Virginia, to adapting to a world...

Good momoir, great beach read

I love memoirs, chick-lit and social commentary, and this book has all three. This enjoyable memoir is about a big time Manhattan magazine marketing director who decided to pack it all up and move to rural Virginia with her husband and sons to manage a cattle farm. Witty and full of satire, the author's voice is exuberant and the pace of her story is great. I giggled and thoroughly enjoyed Susan's transition from getting fitted for St. John's suits to seeing John Deere on her husband's Christmas list, to working out in fancy NYC gyms to burning calories by getting chased by 1500 lb beef cows. Amongst the pithy one-liners, I found Susan's commentary on economic status and class and what those perceptions mean to a family very intriguing, especially in these economic times. Great gift for all girlfriends, whether they have a personal shopper chick to find them fresh fashions or a personal chicken coop for fresh morning eggs.

Every multi-tasking woman should take a break and read this book!

The city mouse moves to the country in this REALLY, REALLY funny book. Susan put her hyper-personality in the pages with her signature tangents that are even funnier as footnotes, lists, indices and much more that pop up throughout for a truly enjoyable read. The best part (and the most important part, I think) of the book is its ability to speak to you personally, whatever hat you are wearing at the moment - working mom, stay-at-home-mom, wife, daughter, sister, friend - about topics that really hit home, from coffee, cleaning and exercising to bathing suits, families and juggling life. She gets to the point, makes you cry but leaves you laughing, all while helping you realize that it's just life and it's funny, so maybe we shouldn't take ourselves so seriously-- at least not all the time. Confessions of a Counterfeit Farmgirl is an amazing first book by a creative, talented author. Buy it and read it! And then tell all your chick friends!

McFabulous

This is a fabulously funny book. Something we all need right now - lighthearted, witty and entertaining. I'm a McFan for life.

Career Women and Moms . . . YOU will LAUGH outloud!

Whether you are a soccer Mom or a career woman this book will make you laugh so hard you can skip your ab workout! Susan says what we all think and yes, I recommend reading it with a magarita. I can only hope this makes it to the big screen!

It reads like a Nora Ephron movie!

I laughed through every chapter. This was one of the most enjoyable books I've read and we sure need a good laugh in these current times. Susan McCorkindale is as clever as Nora Ephron. All I can say is " alarm clark" - "rooster"!!!! Hilarious!!
