Leadership 101

I have follow the Ravens in the off season since their amazing super bowl win. Mr. Brain Billicks actually use his past experience as a NFL Coach on how to become a successful leader with top-notch leadership skills to achieve a common goal that most leaders needs in today's team-led environments. You will need a dictionary near-by as Brian the Brain uses some big words to truly understand. I suggest you take notes as you read so you can put what you learn into action. This book is great for people who are learning on what it takes to be a leader or improving their leadership skills. Also it is great for people in non-leadership roles, because you will understand why the leader does things that you find hard to follow. As quoted in the book per General MacArthur ?Adapt or die!?

must read for all football coaches

This book is a must read for anyone in coaching and leadership roles. Billick writes an honest book about leading and gives the reader many valuable lessons on leadership. His vocabulury is anything but that of a "macho" football coach and his insights into building a team are second to none. Billick is a new type of coach- one who provides knowledge beyond the football field. As a highschool coach and teacher I found this book one the best I have ever read on leadership. Just have your dictionary handy when you read this book.

The Real Deal

I don't normally take the time to review a book, because the time I spend reviewing could be spent in better ways (like reading another book). But this needed to come out. Brian Billick is a mastermind. I know that it's tempting for a business professional or leader of any other sort to dismiss this book because of Brian Billicks position. PLEASE do not. While we don't all coach professional football, we all have the same responsibility to get the best from our players. It's not about football!!! It's about influence. Discipline. Integrity. Respect. Understanding what drives people, and moving towards a common goal. As someone who's read, and continues to read, leadership and business books as a passion and a way of life, I can tell you that this book sits at the very top of my shelf.

Great Book for Leadership Principles

I found the book to be a complete guideline for those "secrets" to success, which really aren't so secret.Common sense ideas and ideals is what Billick professes. We all know these things, but Billick shows how failure to apply any of them will hurt your leadership abilities. Not many jobs can be harder than bringing together 53 players and a coaching staff of about 10, with backgrounds and outlooks as diverse as one can imagine, and turning them around from a sub-average performer into the best in the world.Brian Billick has a lifetime of success behind him, and even more ahead of him. You can always learn a lot from winners.

"Competitive Leadership" - Coach-Brian Billick

After reading "Competitive Leadership", I have a better understanding of the coach of the World Champion Baltimore Ravens and how he created a program for success and a foundation for leadership. I think he is the real story behind the glory that he has brought to the state of Maryland. I teach Leadership Studies at Kent Island High School and have found his book to be most useful. Brian Billick is a man of profound moral significance who makes those around him more sucessful and allows each of his players and his staff reach their full potential with a combination of respect and a vast knowledge of how the game of football should be played. He is a modest man who drives others to success and the only time you ever hear him in front of the microphone it is to protect the players he cherishes. The book concentrates on the 12 components of his leadership style. From self-knowledge to self-confidence, Billick lays out a plan of action for all leaders to follow. The lessons and advice Billick dispenses come from years of understanding the game and since it is a game of people, understanding the human dynamics that makes us all individuals."Competitive Leadership" is a book that can be read by CEO, athlete, supervisor, or anyone who aspires to become a leader. Coach Billick should be proud of this book and what he stands for.
