A provocative book on an important subject

The concept "community policing" is in vogue, a phrase in common use within police organizations and local government units. Yet, those of us in criminal justice know that this term is misunderstood, considered as a lower-level type of policing. In this book, several authors come together to provide a state-of-the-art synopsis of what we have come to understand as community policing, how it is manifested in areas across the country, where it works and where it falls short. Practical recommendations are provided for those of us who are responsible for such community policing programs, but live in areas without the benefit of university systems. I'd recommend this book to anyone with an interest in community policing, or local police culture in general. I felt it was well worth my money.
