After heading to college for my first semester and finding it hard to walk to the gym everyday to lift weights, I bought this book, with a few laughs from my friends seeing that it has that early 90's look to it. I followed the weight liftin section of the book and found that it was a GREAT program!!! Even though on paper, it looks like using free weights in your dorm room is never going to do much, it did more than my years spent at the gym!!! I finally have arm muscles!!! Even afer 3 months of following this weight lifting plan, I can still feel it after a workout, my muscles are fatigued and still firming up!!! Someone recently asked me about what i advice would i give an in-coming freshman and i said it would be to buy this book!!! Despite it's appearance, it's definately worth every cent i spent on it!!! excellent!

I bought this book 7 years ago, soon after I'd graduated from college. I was repaying student loan debt and couldn't afford a gym membership. Plus, I was living in a tiny studio apartment so an at-home workout regimen capable of being done in a tiny space was important. A small area of floorspace, a chair, and two dumbbells were the only required equipment. The best part is that this program works! I saw improvements in my body even as early as the second week... and from there it just kept getting better. This book contains good, solid advice. As a result, I find myself occasionally pulling this book off the shelf to refresh my memory about certain exercises or fitness expectations. The College Dorm Workout qualifies as one of the most useful books I've ever bought.

The BEST fitness book ever!!

I give this book five stars . . . it deserves it!! It was interesting, easy to comprehend and well organized. After careful examination of an unlimited suppy of other health and fitness books, I realized this book had basic underlying techniques that gave me a solid foundation for a TOTAL fitness program. This book was so impressive I shared the new info with all of my friends. They love it also!! It gives all of us the confidence to go into the gym and actually know what we are doing. I sincerely recommend this book to anyone regardless if they are in their college years or not.

Perfect guide for beginners

If your living space is small and cluttered and you don't have the money for gym membership, this book tells you how to design a weightlifting routine that works. I tried it and it worked! I began weightlifting in my small dorm room using this book as my guide. Now that I have graduated from college and have a gym membership, I still go back to this book on occasions for advice on dumbbell exercises.

If you've got the will, here's the way....

I have always felt genetically doomed to be fat and was ready to resign myself to chubbiness until I found this book. Where was it when I was in college? It's packed with sensible eating tips, no-nonsense facts on nutrition, and a reasonably clear explanation of how a combination of diet and exercise will lead to a better body.I realize that this book might be simplistic for some people, but for most of us, it's just right. It lays it to you straight. If you want to get to 'C', you've got to go through 'A' and 'B'.The best thing about this book is that the exercises, which were designed to be done in a small space, are actually effective. I have a niece who is in college right now and has been trying to lose weight for a long time. I bought her this book and she reported that she'd lost quite a few pounds within the first few weeks of starting the exercises. The author isn't some guru (although her mom is a fitness expert and was the person who put together the training routine), she's just another college gal who's been through the frosh fifteen. It's refreshingly uncondescending in it's voice so you won't feel like a dummy. However, I DO have a few bones to pick with the designers of the book: Hopefully, in the next edition the pictures will be in color so that you can better visualize the correct postures for the exercises from an awkward position, especially if they don't remedy the dinky text describing the exercises which is equally difficult to peruse from two feet away. Also, it would help if the book were spiral bound or accordian bound so that the pages would stay in place without me having to set a book on top of it to keep the pages from flipping.Until another edition is released where these nitpicky issues are addressed, I highly recommend you buy this book.
