5 Hearts from The Romance Studio

Family dynamics are well written so that readers can feel a sense of having all the questions we ask ourselves while reading answered when the book ends. Jane and Quinn, Kylie's brother and sister, help build the suspense with secrets of their own. There are characters like T.J. whose love of tennis matches Kylie's. His story is one of sadness mixed with hope. Each of the people Ms. Lamb introduces us to is well constructed to enhance the story. This is one of those books that's hard to put down. The suspense just keeps building to a finale that will give the reader a sense of completion that isn't always present in books. - Dee Dailey

Cold Midnight rocks!

Cold Midnight is the third book I've read by Joyce Lamb and her most romantic and intense yet. this fast-paced story features two strong protagonists in Kylie and Chase, a gripping suspense plot, and well-crafted police procedure. The danger to Kylie with its twists and turns creates a page-turner, but so does the romantic conflict. The romance is front and center at all times, scorching and intensely emotional. This is a captivating and powerful romantic suspense novel. I couldn't put it down!

intriguing mystery

A decade ago, Kylie McKay had a promising career as a professional tennis player. That ended with an attack the destroyed her knee. Unable to remain in Kendal Falls, Florida, the distraught Kylie leaves. Now ten years later, Kylie comes home to Kendall Falls as a new tennis facility is being constructed; however the digging leads to her cold assault case reopened with the finding of the bat used in that brutal attack. Detective Chase Manning, who loved Kylie before she left town breaking his heart, leads the investigation. As he begins to piece together a case against her half-brother Quinn, someone threatens to harm Kylie if she fails to leave town. This is an intriguing mystery with a nod to the Harding-Kerrigan incident from several years ago. The story line is fast-paced and Kylie is a solid lead character who will receive reader empathy for what happened to her career and her current efforts to move on. The problem is Chase, who was a jerk a decade ago and to make up for his inability to be there for his beloved, he constantly apologizes at the same he holds a grudge against Kylie for leaving him; fans will think she needs to do it again. Still in spite of the cop COLD MIDNIGHT is an enjoyable romantic police procedural. Harriet Klausner

Well done!

Ten years ago Kylie McKay was a young tennis-prodigy. Her competitive tennis career ended when two people brutally attacked her and shattered her knee with a baseball bat. Kylie left Kendall Falls, Florida, in an attempt to forget everyone and everything, including the young man she loved, Chase Manning. Now Kylie has returned to Kendall Falls. She is building a tennis center for her old neighborhood. But a saboteur has been making things difficult. When a wrapped baseball bat is dug up at the construction site, Kylie recognizes it as the weapon used against her ten years ago. One of the two detectives that come to the construction site is Chase. Kylie's assault is one of the main things that made Chase decide to become a cop. Events begin to escalate and Chase has no doubt that Kylie's life is in danger. Though the attraction between them still blazes, Chase is determined to keep her at arms length. That should not be too hard since Kylie seems to be just as determined to keep away from him. Besides, evidence is beginning to point at someone she cares for. **** FOUR STARS! This story caught my interest quickly by starting out with Chase arriving at the construction site after the bat had been excavated. The tension runs high throughout the entire story and the drama is terrific. Most of the characters are well developed and I found them to be totally believable. Well crafted and intriguing. **** Reviewed by Detra Fitch of Huntress Reviews.
