I am in the process of studying for the Praxis Exam 0081. I purchased the ETS edition first then I purchased the cliff notes edition. The praxis edition gave me the actual subject topics that I will need to be sucessful at passing this test, but I had to reasearch every single topic. The cliff notes version gives you information about the topic. The summarys were very helpful and they were pretty close to the accurate research that I had done for different subject areas. The actual practice test is better in the ETS version because it is an old exam, but with both items and research, I should not have a problem passing this exam. The people that think that this study guide sucks do to the type-o's is paying to much attention to what isnt important. This book is a study guide. That means it gives you the directions that you need to study sucessfully, not the answers. Its your job to utilize the information as well as other sources (history books, economic books) to make sure that you have enough knowledge to pass this test. This books gives you a very good starting point. I wish I would have purchased it first.
praxis 2: social studies content knowledge test

For my personal needs, this book was perfect. I am an English teacher & have only had 12 hours of undergraduate history courses. I have always been interested in history, so I decided to take the Praxis 2 in Social Studies. This book offers a basic overview of every section that will be on the test. There is no in-depth information here, but, then again, the Praxis 2 is not exactly an in-depth assessment. It will only test a very rudimentary knowledge of your content area. It seems that most of the negative reviews are from history majors who felt this book was too basic. This book probably is too basic for a history major & would likely be a waste of money. If you are not a history major or it has been awhile since you have been in school, I would highly recommend this book. Otherwise, you could probably pass the test without even studying, as I did with the Praxis 2 in English.
Excellent Resource

The Social Studies Praxis exam covers HUGE areas of academic knowledge (world history, american history, geography, political secience, economics, and the behavioral sciences), and this resource is the perfect tool to put it all in perspective for you. In addition to test-taking tips and practice exams (take them ALL), the Cliffs guide breaks EVERYTHING down for you into discreet segments so that you're not overwhelmed. It helped me a great deal, and I would definitely advise others to use it as a starting point in their preparations for the exam.
Invaluable to the Anxious

I found this book to be more helpful than the actual Praxis Series help book. I passed the Praxis II on the first attempt after studying with this book!
About Time...

It's about time, finally, a preparatory study guide for the Social Studies Content Knowledge test, 0081!!! First rate job by Dr. Pate and I know that it will prepare for my upcomming exam. A suggestion: an audio version would be most helpful for busy folks with families and jobs, however, I must admit that it probably wouldn't be cost effective to produce.
