Love Margaret Hillert, Her Readers are Great

I love Margaret Hillert's books (which is why I'm gathering the basic information on them for series for my blog). The reason I'm so enthusiastic about them is that her books tell complete stories which results in children gaining a better sense of accomplishment than they do with many other, newer primers. "Cinderella at the Ball" is a case in point. Using only 44 words Margaret manages to tell the entire story, which is pretty amazing. "You! You go to the ball! Oh, not you. You look funny. And you can not come." It's simple language that she uses, but along with the pictures Cinderella's story is told. THE TECHNICAL BITS::: This one is rated at the .07 pre-primer Accelerated Reading level. The toughest words are: orange, something, mother and father. Highly Recommend Pam T~ mom/blogger booksforkids-reviews

A Fun Reading Exercise For Youngsters

Margaret Hillert takes the wonderful story of Cinderella and compacts it into a short story that's easy for eager youngsters to read. This book uses primer words such as "to," "we," "help," and "see," in a repetitive fashion that gives beginning readers an excellent drill in reading. The book also features colorful illustrations by Janet LaSalle. Children over the age of seven may find this book to be rather dull, but younger readers will be encouraged by the fact that they can read a book in its entirety. This book is part of the Modern Curriculum Press Beginning To Read Series and I highly recommend it to any parent who has a young bookworm just waiting for something else to read. It's a fun story put forth in an easily digestable format for the kiddies.
