I read a lot of Christmas books and so far this is my favorite to read this year. I enjoyed Mr. Walker's sense of humor and the the way the lessons learned were woven in perfectly instead of being up front and out of place as in some moral fiction. This is a story you can read aloud as a family and anyone kindergarten on up would enjoy it. The characters are believable and endearing. My only qualm is that the main character is supposed to be 9 and he seems a pinch older, not a big deal, just seems closer to say 10. I read the Wise man section to my kids and sure got a lot of laughs! I'm not going to reveal why but it's bound to be a Christmas classic!
Heartwarming, without being vomit-inducing

PS - The product description above says the main character's name is Calvin. It's actually Sam. Christmas On Mill Street is a hilarious, heart-warming story about Sam, a kid who just moved to Utah from Arizona and in an effort to make new friends, has just made a bet that he'll be able to sled the un-sleddable Mill Street on Christmas Day. COMS reminded me of A Christmas Story and The Sandlot - a story about the innocence of childhood told with the intelligence, humor and wisdom of an adult. Short, easy to read, a good Christmas gift for anyone.
