Sally Stuart continues to provide complete and necessary information for any writer looking to be published in the Christian marketplace. If that's your market, buy this book.Itemized and thorough, readers of the Writer's Digest writer's markets will not be disappointed. Cross referenced ministry... have a seemingly obscure niche article? She has created a section outlining the niches, listing the publications which serve them.It is well-edited and cleanly laid out.Useful would be this book on a searchable CD. The book lacks bigtime here. I want to search all publications publishing poetry, and have the results returned in one area. It takes a long time to thumb through and read each one. I'd like to search all the poetry publishers which pay for the poems... you can see how this would be handy. Maybe next year.Having held out to buy a new edition, I suffered using a 1999 version. Editors, publications change locations and needs. I acquired far too many rejection slips and returned mail for delaying my purchase of this new edition. Don't make the same mistake!I fully recommend this book.

The Best Resource for Christian Writers

Finally, I've found a market book for Christian writers! This is a very useful reference work, containing listings of over 1,000 markets for writers of poetry, fiction, novels, freelance articles, and devotions. There are a few entries which are not really "Christian" markets, and which may lead people to submit unsutiable work, but for the most part, the listings are well chosen. Subject indexes make it a little easier to find just the market you are looking for, although I still think the book could have benefited from some further (and perhaps different) organization. This publication is like a Poet's Market and a Writer's Market rolled up into one -- specifically for Christians. It is probably the only one of its kind available.

Included are 683 periodicals, 329 books publishers, 90 literary agents, 250 poetry markets, 177 greeting card and speciality markets, expanded markets for photographers, a separate context section with 90 entries, e-mail address, websites, and online markets; scriptwriting, song writing, poetry, and web page resources, and a section of "Helps For Writers" the included Christian Writers' Conferences and Workshops; Area Christian Writers' Clubs/Groups; and more. A highly recommended, indispensable reference, Christian Writers' Market Guide 2000 is thoroughly "user friendly", and enhanced with a glossary of terms and a general index.
AN ABSOLUTE NECESSITY!

Sally's cross-referencing (topical, denominational, etc.) makes finding just the right publisher as easy as it can be. Of course, no market guide can take the place of actually contacting publishers for guidelines and themes lists, but 'The Christian Writers Market Guide' is a great spring board for the writer who seeks to be published. Sally also offers excellent advice on approaching markets and her user-friendly glossary makes technical terms a breeze. Secular writers market guides in comparison, offer only a fraction of leads into the Christian publishing field. If you want to be published in any form of Christian literature, from novels to greeting cards, 'The Christian Writers Market Guide' is an absolute necessity.
