Awesome!!

I loved, loved, loved this book. The best part to me was that it bought me back to the Word to make sure my facts were straight. Patricia Haley left us hanging at the end, but I definitely do not mind. I am waiting to find out what will happen to the ministry now that Joel's steps are no longer ordered. We often want something so bad that when we no longer hear God's voice we start making excuses for ourselves. This book brings a modern day tone to a biblical event. Many are called but few are CHOSEN. This is a must read.

Must Read!

This was one of the best books I have read in a long time.Once you pick it up,it's hard to put down.If you want a really great book, read Chosen.

Divine Favor

Author Patricia Haley takes sibling rivalry to another level in Chosen, as two half brothers, Joel and Don Mitchell, try to live with the last minute decision made by their father, Dave, to have Joel, rather than elder son Don, head a multi-million dollar ministry. Don had been groomed by his father to some day head DMI, the ministry/business started by his parents. However, the divine decision made by the elder Mitchell, to appoint Joel as CEO, was one he knew God made as he dealt with his illness and choice to step down from the position himself. No matter, because his first wife, Madeline was not going to sit back quietly and accept her son being displaced without a fight; even if it meant sabotaging decisions made by Joel on behalf of the ministry. Joel was not without help from his mother, Sherry, who believed that her husband made the right decision about the ministry and decided she would do all she could to support her son in spite of his lack of knowledge of the business. The Mitchell family's problems did not begin with the decision made for the younger brother to lead the ministry over the elder brother. Their past history is tainted with infidelity, trust issues, parental neglect, and other things that caused drastic and life-changing events to occur within their family. Madeline refused to forgive and even after 25 years, was seeking ways to avenge the wrong done to her and her children. Will Joel be able to walk in the way that God has chosen for him and take the family ministry to a global level? Or, will he falter in his weaknesses and allow the enemy to destroy what his father lovingly and prayerfully built over the years? Will there be forgiveness among the Mitchell family members, and can they find a way to accept each other and the decision that the elder Mitchell made? I really enjoyed Chosen, especially how Author Haley shared how God does choose the most unlikely person for ministry when we think there is no way possible. I recommend this book to everyone who enjoys reading about family drama, and all the issues that can come from an extended family situation. Review by Sharel E. Gordon-Love Apooo BookClub

(4.5 stars) Faith And Forgiveness

When Dave Mitchell left his wife and business partner Madeline Mitchell for a younger woman named Sherry, the battle of the families began. Madeline knew that Dave had cut his family out of his life for his new one once Sherry found out that she was pregnant. Madeline felt she had lost everything she had ever worked for, except for the family business. She still had hope that Dave would do the right thing and name his oldest son Don Mitchell as his successor. Don Mitchell was groomed for the family business since he was born. He just knew he would become CEO of the multi-million dollar ministry DMI. But Dave said that he was told by God that his youngest son Joel is to become the CEO. Don was devastated because this was a clear sign that his dad did not want to be a part of his life any longer. As a result, Don left the country to become his own person, and not just Dave Mitchell's son. Meanwhile, his mother Madeline was not going to let her son get cut out of his rightful place in the family's business. She was determined to do whatever it took to get Joel kicked out of the company, and gain control of the business for her family. Not telling anyone that he is dying, Dave gets very ill and needs to make amends with all of his children. Unfortunately, not all of his kids are inclined to have the family reunion he was hoping for. He tries to advise the kids that will talk to him that they should always keep God first no matter what. As time went on, the business grew and Joel captures national attention. But his desire for more power could be his downfall. In Chosen, Patricia Haley does a fine job of showing the readers how difficult it is to forgive even though sometimes it can be the toughest decision you've ever made. She ties in how important God's mercy is...and without it, no decision that is made without God is a good decision at all. Throughout the book, she shows how family can be at odds and how influential family is. She also shows how important it is to retain your faith. Patricia Haley did an outstanding job on each person's outlook and how, without forgiveness, no problem can truly be solved. Reviewed by Jackie for Urban Reviews

Possible Sequel?

This was an awesome read by the author. But when I got to the end of the book, I was upset Why? Because the ending leaves you hanging. Maybe that was the authors intent. For one to visualize the possibilities of what might happen later down the road. So I wonder if there will be a sequel to the story. If so, I sure would like to see how it turns out. Over all, the book was a wonderful read! You will not be disappointed.
