This book is absolutely awesome. It chronicles the physical, emotional, mental and social development of children from pre-conception issues like genetics through adulthood. It is easy to read, yet incredibly clear and detailed. It is clearly a textbook (quite heavy and full of pictures, graphs and diagrams), but it is also quite interesting. The vocabulary in introduced and throughly explained before it is used. What I found most interesting is that the author helps you make connections between what a child's development is biologically and what that means we (as teachers, parents or child-care workers) should be doing to help them grow while protecing them.I don't have children yet, but I am incredibly glad that I have read this book first and that I'll have it as a reference as he/she grows. It's a no-nonsense, basic explanation of how we develop and how adults can help/hurt it.What can you expect a three-year-old to understand about right and wrong? Why is a tricylce a good toy for a preschooler? Those questions and much more are answered within.
