Cherokee Warriors: The Captive

Ms. Dellin has created another strong female character in Raney Childress. She broke Creed Sixkiller's heart years earlier when she decline his proprosal. Her father would not allow her to marry an indian. I found Creed Sixkiller entertaining has he tried to keep his feeling surpressed during their adventure of trying to find her younger brother.

fine Reconstruction Era romance

In 1868 Texas, Creed Sixkiller loves Raney Childress and plans to ask her to be his wife. However, the spoiled Raney, a member of the aristocratic Sixes and Sevens Ranch family rejects his proposal although she is attracted to him. Someone with her breeding would never dilute the blood by marrying a half-breed. Three years later, Creed is a lawman who is after Raney's brother Brass. Raney worries that when the two meet, one will not come home alive as Brass says he will not return to jail and she knows how stubborn Creed can be when he chases after an outlaw. Raney decides to catch up to Creed and ride with him so she can mediate a safe compromise between two men she loves. However, Creed does not trust the woman who killed his heart although he knows he still loves her. This Reconstruction Era romance is fun to follow because of the maturing of the lead female protagonist. Raney goes from heeding the direct orders of the males in her family, which meant giving up love to obedience, to following her heart. Creed is typical of the half-breed sub-genre centerfold as an ethical individual struggling to make it in a purebred world; he rejects Raney's advances on the trail having been burned once, but he knows he remains her captive. Readers will enjoy this fine tale in which her sibling serves as the rope in a tug of war between two individuals in love. Harriet Klausner
