Each CHECKLIST contains important points for you to consider. I call this information 'underpinning knowledge'. This is vital knowledge you need when you are involved in adding quality as you create, develop, evaluate, & adapt eLearning (Online) courses & resources. Underpinning knowledge - what do I mean? Underpinning knowledge is a level of knowledge that supports the general knowledge needed to achieve competence. Perhaps people forget to share this level of knowledge with learners, or perhaps they are not conscious of the need to share this level of knowledge. Underpinning knowledge helps you to understand WHY you have to follow certain steps. How do I know? I have been a teacher for over 25 years. My CHECKLISTS contain valuable underpinning knowledge that I have used to be an effective teacher. I gathered this level of knowledge from my own personal experiences with teaching face-to-face & online, my professional development experiences, and my use of computers, computer technology & software. Many times I learned underpinning knowledge by trial & error I assumed specific people in education & computer technology would know WHY something had to be done a certain way. However, I found many who simply did not know WHY. I learned underpinning knowledge from colleagues, learners (students), professional associations & when I participated in a variety of research activities. Sometimes they told me they didn't know how much they knew until I asked them to explain WHY. Why is underpinning knowledge important? Underpinning knowledge increases the ability to offer quality eLearning (Online) courses & resources. By exposing learners to enjoyable, quality eLearning (Online) courses & resources they discover the important role of information technology in developing attitudes, skills & knowledge needed to live, learn, & work effectively in an information-rich technological society.
